| Smack some sense into me??? So I love my RC and I ride it every instant that I can. However, the wifey wants me to get something else that is more comfortable for her. She likes to ride along with and I like doing that. I do not take my rc to the track, I use it for the opposite purpose that it was built. But, it is mine and that is how I use it.
That being said, I would love to have a cruiser but could not do so without getting rid of the RC. I am only 26 so the comfort does not really affect me yet, I know it will though at some point. I just would have a terrible time parting with this bike.
Any input would be great, criticism for even contemplating this would be greatly accepted I think....
Sorry for my pointless rant, I just had to say it somewhere as the lady is sick of hearing it from me. BLAH |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? I would say save for a used cruiser. Or, get a cheap rebel 250 and teach her to ride! Then you could roll together. But I would NOT sell the bike I loved to make my passenger happy no matter WHO it is. Especially with your wife, it could lead to resentment on some level I bet. I dunno. I would keep what I have and save for another.

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? As a girl and partner to bikers my first reaction was give HER a slap not you!!! I would never suggest to my OH that he get a bike that was more comfortable for me as a pillion if said bike was his pride and joy, and especially not a cruiser, as I know exactly what the reply would have been.. My OH bought the bikes he has as they are the ones HE wanted, pillion comfort didnt come into the equation.. in fact the Ducati is a solo ride..
I would suggest either saving for a second bike which is comfortable for her, or getting her her own bike so she can ride on her own too..
Dont get rid of the bike you love as you WILL regret it.. |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? I suggested to my little lady after a few long 2 up rides that I might sell the 954 and get something more user friendly for her to go pillion with me. But the little darling said that she knew that I would not be happy with anything else at the moment and I know she is right. We both know that 2 bikes are out of the question at the moment and I would regret selling the Blade. So she is happy to do shorter runs, bless her little heart. |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? You need to slapped for even contemplating the thought of selling the RC. She needs to get over it or have her get a bike so that both of you can roll. NEVER GET RID OF THE RC!!!!!!!!! I did once and about a month later I bought another one because I missed it.
I left the 2 cylinder relm and bught a CBR1000rr and hated it...... It was sweet handlin alright and light.......but the powerband was enemic where I thought it should be powerful so I went back to the dealer and traded for my RC51 back. I only put 100 miles on the CBR! |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? Ok this is my first post here and also my 44th birthday. Ive been riding for years and currently ride a 2000n yam roadstar 1600 and 82" honda ascot.. a friend at work let me putt around his 04 hayden in the parking lot and after contemplating a sv 650, im leaning towards the rc51..... if you are looking towards a cruiser, i highly recommend looking at a 1999- 2002 road star. http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602 great value with the yamaha ....i really liked the sv 650 i test rode especially the upright bars, but that sensation of lighting between the legs when on the rc51 was unparalleled. steve |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? they have a nice used vtx 1800 that i like at local dealer in town here. I am contemplating just buying it and letting her ride with me on that. she isn't trying to tell me to get rid of the rc, just saying how she would like to be able to take longer rides and be more comfortable. i think i was just mad when she said it and took it the wrong way. she knew i was irritated by her comments and she apologized and we talked it over lol.
i may just buy the vtx though because i love the look of it and i liked the way it rode. |

i may just buy the vtx though because i love the look of it and i liked the way it rode. | The VTX makes a decent two-up bike. A backrest is a must for the passenger and it will change the look of the bike if that matters to you. There are "quick-release" options out there that look ok. I had the fixed Honda backrest and also added floorboards to the back, which really improved comfort.
I sold my 1987 FZR1000 to get a VTX1800R b/c I thought it would be an great two-up touring bike. It was, but it also had it's limitations. No wind/rain protection. The stock rear suspension was ok, but my wife has a bad neck and any bump in the road sent a jolt straight through her spine.
I soon missed the sport bike and managed to pick up a 954 while keeping the VTX. After a year, I decided to buy the RC that I had always wanted and sold the 954. I had the RC for a year and 4k-ish miles and decided it was time to buy another bike that I'd had my eye on for a long time, a GS Adventure.
I sold my RC to get the GSadv. While I miss the RC, I really haven't looked back. I ride the GS year round, in all weather except ice/snow. There is no comparison b/n the GS and the VTX's suspension and the wife has no desire to get back on the VTX anymore. As a result, I've pulled all the passenger stuff off and it has been converted back to a solo-ride. It doesn't even have a rear seat anymore.
I do miss the way the RC looked and sounded, but that's about it. It was a fun bike, but it had an extremely narrow focus and like you I never took it to the track b/c it was too "nice" to risk wrecking. Also, my 1995 VFR is a better street bike than the RC could ever hope to be, and for track days a smaller inline-four would be more fun.....at least for a track-day noob like me.
Keep the RC if you love it. They are unique and you'll miss it. The other side is that there are always other bikes out there, and you may enjoy owning them even more.
PM me for any VTX questions. There's a lot of good info here too:

Look in the upper right, you will see the picture change. What is one of the bikes listed? |

| Re: Smack some sense into me??? My wife tried to ride the Fireblade once. That's all it took. So I bought an old Wing. You're in Ohio for goshsakes, that's where the bloody things were made! This place is lousy with them, and there are lots that are naked and reasonably priced. Insurance is negligible, all you need is some space in the garage. Hey, marital harmony is worth a lot more than the asking price of the Wing. |

I cant begin to advise you on such a situation as I dont know your wife and your relationship with her should be your number 1 pride. I do hope you get it all worked out.
I just went through the mud with my wife about the bike. I was ready to get rid of the bike if thats what it took to get out of the dog-house.
Surely its not as bad as it may sometimes seem.
Good luck |
