| RC51 MOTOR HELP I have a 2001 rc51. it was in a crash. i rebuilt the front end. new plastics headlight etc. My problem is it won't turnover fast enough. Battery is new starter is good. It seems like too much compression and gets stuck. with spark plugs out it turns over great. is there some kind of compression relief. there was no motor damage in crash. | |

| Re: RC51 MOTOR HELP so the bike went down? you may have a hydraulic lock in one of your cylinders. Quite possible that some crankcase oil found its way up into the cylinder and you cant compress oil. If you keep trying to start it you may bend a rod, if it hasnt bent already. Leave the plugs out and try so see into the cylinder using a scope or mirror or whatever and see if there is oil up in there. You have to get it all out. |

| Re: RC51 MOTOR HELP Leave the plugs loose and try and start, relieve a lil bit of the compression. Also battery may be new, but does it have a good charge? What are the crankin amps. |

| Re: RC51 MOTOR HELP Sounds like a bend rod to me as well. Cylindars may be clean now but it could have very well hydrolocked. |

| Re: RC51 MOTOR HELP is there any way you can get 12 volts to your starter hot lead? I mean from another battery, by a separate cable. Make up a temporary cable and run it from your car battery (and ground- you could just use a jumper cable with clips from the battery ground to your frame). If it cranks the same, then you may have a bad starter. If it cranks good, then you've got several possibilities. Switch, relay, loose connections, bad battery, battery connections. Something is sucking your starter voltage down through a poor connection. |

| Re: RC51 MOTOR HELP do you have a multimeter?? set it on DC volts and check your battery hot post to ground. It should be about 13.5 volts, then while holding the meter on the battery, hit the starter button and see how much voltage drop you get. If you get a BIG voltage drop down to like 7 volts then that battery has a problem and cant support the load for cranking. IF it only drops a little, as normal then your power is going elsewhere |
