Picked up '01 SP1 with only 750 original miles

Hey guys .... Last week I picked up an '01 RC51 Sp1 that only has 750 miles on it. Most of its life it was ridden very rare and for the last couple of years sitting in a garage hooked up to a battery tender and started up once a month.

It's completely stock other than an undertail kit. Over the weekend I changed the oil, installed a power commander, threw in some fuel system cleaner additive with fresh gas and rode it around a bit. It seems to idle and run great! Other than bleeding brakes, flushing coolant, etc what should I change out since it's been sitting & not being ridden for so long? Any problems with the tires not being used for that long?

Like I said the bike looks pretty much brand new since it pretty much is other than it's an '01 model. I had an '03 SP2 model 5 years ago that I only had for a short time before getting taken out in the carpool lane ... this is my first bike back. I told myself if I ever got another bike it would only be another RC51.

Welcome to fireblades! It sounds like you need to post your new toy in the review section so we can all take a look. Less than 1000 miles? amazing, I would be tempted never to ride it.

I would be concerned with 7 year old tires, even if they had 100% tread.

Welcome Now give it to me for a present and then I can be happy and you won't have to worry about it. I would change all fluids. including the brake fluid. Replacing the tires would be very smart.
I would look at the clutch fibers and metal plates. Sitting for a long time the fluid will leave the clutch fibers causing them to stick to the metal plates. Even though you said the person started it monthly I would check them anyway. If the fibers are frayed or seperated the debree is circulating thru your oil system.

Thanks guys ... here are a few pics of the bike. It already had an undertail kit, I installed a Power Commander over the weekend and my Jardine carbon fiber slip-ons should be here tomorrow. I'm rounding up all the necessary gear too since I had to turn in all my old stuff to my insurance company after my accident 5 years ago.

No better time then now. The market is flooded with them. Right now on ebay there are about 15 which is the most I have seen in a long time. Usually there are about 5 at any given time. You can pick up a 05 off of there for about 6 grand.
