| RC51 Compatible Rims Hey Guys:
This is 2005RC51 from charlotte nc. I need a little info. I purchased a 2004 RC51 from an auction with some front end damage and i need to replace the front rim. I havent seen many on eBay and the one i do see are crazy expensive. So what other honda rims are compatible with an RC51?
I know the 954, 929 and the CBRF4I are but what about the VFR800? If you have any info i would appreciate it.

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims Bladeracer will know the answer to this, but from what I can remember the 954RR wheel should fit (and is lighter)... Do a search on this site - your bound to find something...
Btw, Hi and Welcome to Fireblades

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims Hi there,
Wheels from CBR954, CBR600RR6, CBR1000RR6 onwards will fit and disc spacing is the same but disc diameter differs by model. Radial brakes are a doddle to space but conventional ones are more difficult. |

RC51 and 929/954 rears are a direct swap. |

I know the SP2 wheels were a bit lighter than SP1s and with all the trouble they went through trying to save weight I couldn't see that they had lighter wheels handy and wouldn't use them.
I once in a shop was replacing tires for a VFR and ZX9R from the late 90s and I couldn't believe how much lighter the VFR wheels were.

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims 600rr (04/05?) are a direct swap for the front, and 1000rr (04/07) can work for the front/rear with some minor mods as well. |

I think they just wouldn't have used 3 spoke wheels for the RC51, however light they were.
954 wheels are definitely lighter than 929 in which the hubs are 'solid', whereas the 945 wheels are mostly fresh air, i.e. lots of 'holes' cast into the hub. I did weigh them once to confirm this, but have lost the actual figures.
I believe the 3 spokes are lighter than the RC51s, but that is supposition as I don't have the figures. I think I have all those wheels so I'll try and weigh them to get some more definitive answers to post back here. I'll try to do that today. |

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims Looks can be deceiving, and unless we have figures it is hard to judge. But I have noticed that most light aftermarket wheels are 6 or more spokes/arms.
I know it is better to save 100grams off the wheels and from anything close to the axle, than 600g from the rest of the bike for better feel and suspension performance, but for street use many of those ultra expensive lightweight wheels have proven themselves to be a hazard.
So I am much more interested in wheels that came off a similar performance street bike, than an aftermarket racing wheel. |

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims I just installed some 1000rr 2007 rims on my RC-51. The rear bolts right up, and the front requires 2 cheap mods. I first bought some condiuit pipe due to its thin wall. I cut the required amount, then removed material horosontally, instead of the pipe looking like an 'O', i cut a slot that makes it look like a 'C'. I then press in the part inside the 1000rr rim and file the inside a bit till the RC-51 axel fits in nice. I used the left stock spacer from the 1000rr, and had a machine shop make me the right spacer by increasing the legnth by 1.85mms. End result, for 400 bucks (came with rims/sprocket/carrier) I got rims that are 6.5 lbs lighter. After selling the RC-51 rims this mod costs no more than 100 bucks. Now that is a cheap mod for huge improvments. Enjoy!

What you made off the pipe is a spacer? Is the ID of the bearings the same as the ones on RC? |

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims Sergio, sounds sweet, post up some pics when you can. I'm going to do pretty much the same thing, but using a 1000rr rear and 600rr front, that way they both bolt up directly with no mods. |

I spend about 15 minutes fileling the ID for the axel fits in, and it is snug. I left it a bit snug because after some wheelies and goat trails the C slip's ID might loosen up with the abuse. I'll see if I can soon put up some pictures of it. I have not ridden the RC51 in over 6 months with all of the mods I have been working on, but it will be a different bike!

Either swap the bearings (and seals) or if putting CBR wheels in an RC51, make a sleeve/spacer. I did the latter since the spacers then stay with the wheel when removing and replacing rather than always falling out at the most inconvenient moment.
But as I said, you could swap bearings instead as they have the same OD. |

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims I could have gone the bearing route which I will in the future, but I am on a huge budget right now which the conduit pipe only cost 1$. I also made the conduit pipe longer then the wheel, so both spacers stay on when installing. Good luck with the swap non-theless, it is a great mod for the price.

| Re: RC51 Compatible Rims I've got a 1000rr rear wheel on the way, so I should be mounting it up to my RC this weekend to test things out. I'll post up some results and pictures when it all works out. |
