Swapping a SP2 throttle position sensor on to a SP1?

I am checking to see if anyone has swapped a SP2 Throttle Position Sensor on to a SP1. I have come across members who have swapped out throttle position sensors from one SP2 to another without any issues. I understand that the throttle body assemblies are different from a SP2 to a SP1, but the TPS sensors look to be the same. Just want to see if anyone has attempted this or knows if this is possible. I have done searches, but have not been unable to find any threads explaining if this is possible. If it helps, my TPS sensor from my 2000 SP1 has the identification #'s JT4R 00201 on the face of the sensor.

Hoping to get back up and running strong.

Thanks for any input,

Re: Swapping a SP2 throttle position sensor on to a SP1?

Has anyone ever attempted this? Reason I’m looking to go this route is because I would prefer to switch out TPS’s with a newer SP2 sensor due to the age factor. I am sure one of you techy guys have attempted this. If any of you have attempted this, Please let me know your outcome. (i.e. is the way it attaches the same?, voltage range the same?)

Thanks,
B

Why don't you just buy a tps sensor for an SP1?

Unfortunately the TPS is part of the entire throttle body assembly, so you can not just purchase the individual throttle position sensor from Honda. You have to purchase the entire throttle body assembly, which for a SP1 is in the neighborhood of $1,800 retail. Of course they could probably be found for less, but that is still way out of what I want to spend, especially since all I am needing is the individual sensor.

Just curious as to why you'd even want to do this. I wouldn't think that a TPS is a common part that fails, no matter how old it is.

There have been a few people that have had the TPS sensor fail on them. The only solution is a throttle body setup from Honda. I'm sure the sensor can be found but it is not readily available.

I am not sure how common it is for the TPS to fail, but it seems to be fairly high for my bike and many others have run into this same failure. Another reason for finding out if a SP2 sensor will work on a SP1 is not only the age factor, but also the availability of used SP2 throttle bodies seems to be higher.

Thanks for your help,
B
