| I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? I have a 01 rc51 and i want to make a custom slip on underseat exhaust for it. Can anyone give me information on where i could look for ideas or how i could go about doing this? i'm new to forums so bare with me.. i want the mufflers to be C.F. or titanium i am up for discussion for that though.. and i dont want to burn the undertail so i have to make an assembly for there as well. Anybody have any advice or ideas? OOR if you think that i am just wasting my time you can let me know. I welcome ALL replys. thanks !

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? You are probably going to take a hit on the power output. Undertail exhausts always cost power as well as make the center of gravity of the bike higher as well. This is why the '08 RR does not have an undertail exhaust anymore. |

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? Personally I have always loved the sharp angled pipes on the RC. It sets it apart at just a glance. The other consideration is the tail is already quite thick on the RC (unlike an RR) and the addition of a couple of cans under there will likely make it way too fat through there. Also the pipes leading up to them would probably have to be externally plumbed and couldn't be tucked away inside making it dangerous from the high temps and maybe a little unsightly. A nice looking set of pipes of your choice would be the ticket I think. |

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? I have to agree with "denzee". I have Remus C/F slip-ons that come up to the tail and form a sharp edge. You could also fabricate an exhaust that rests under the frame (yes... like a Buell) or slightly purtrudes off the side like the newer GSXRs. 'Hope you like to weld stuff... |

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? Remus... I don't know of the performance gains, but they sound mean. You should check out youtube. There are a bunch of videos covering the subject - just type "RC51 + exhaust" in the subject line. |

You get a nice power bump (something like 10hp and almost 10 ft lbs of torque) low in the rev range. They change the bike into a new animal. Forget the undertail nonsense. |

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? Interesting thread... I'm thinking about a Buell style exhaust on my SP1. Why? Because I can and I love making stuff for my bikes. It will be a little interesting sorting out the pipework with enough room for a can, but it should be a fun project. The weather is great for riding here at the moment so it will have to wait for winter... |

Some gp bikes are undertail so further suggests otherwise to your assumption. In fact longer headers are often benefit to certain engine configurations, typically higher revving ones. That said, a dodgy custom undertail may very well lose power, and it definitely will if its not tuned for it.Good luck with the project. |

| Re: I need some help with some ideas for my exhaust please?!? There were a few exhaust mfr's that actually made undertail units for this bike. Dynos showed a loss of power too. Don't reinvent the wheel. |

Do you ride your bike like a professional racer rides a race bike? Your bike is also not setup like a race bike. |
