04 Hayden

Looking to replace my 01 RC51. Interested in an 04 Hayden bike. Just wanted to know the difference in the Hayden edition. How can you tell if it is,besides the decal. One could easily get one(decal) made.Or are all the 04's Hayden editions. Just wanted some thoughts. Thanks

Check the VIN. All 2004 models are Hayden Editions (here in the States). If the 10th digit of the VIN is a "4" then its a Hayden Edition.

Re: 04 Hayden

All '04 U.S. models were Nicki Hayden editions.
The only difference between it and the rest of the SP2's is cosmetic.
The '04 was the only U.S. model that had bare aluminum frame while the rest had theirs power coated.
The bodywork had different color scheme and the tank had Hayden's signature. Otherwise, no different than any '02 to '06.

Re: 04 Hayden

Ya! Sorry for not responding sooner. I found one and bought it back in March. It had 8500 miles on it,erion pipes, and a power commander. It only had two previous owners. I also got the stands the guy had for it. When I changed the oil in it i noticed the oil plug cap, filter,& drain plugs were wired. At that time I wasn't sure why. Then I saw on a bike site, someone said you had to do these to run on a track. So I'm assuming that one of the two owners had it on the track. Who knows it may have more mods done to it that i can't see. The bike is excellent and I got a good buy on it. The weather here in NY has been terrible, so I've only got about 1000 miles on it. Planning a nice long ride with some friends when and if we ever get some good weather. In the meantime, I've got my wrecked 01 RC51 tore down. Plan on fixing it this winter. Then I'll have two great bikes that I will never part with!

Re: 04 Hayden

SP1 2000-2001
SP2 2002-2008

The only mechanical difference among the sp2 models was valving changes on shock and maybe fork, and I believe I read somewhere that OEM brake pads changed at some point. There are also 2 versions of HRC pads.
My 02 is a Colin Edwards edition

Re: 04 Hayden

Some of the differences can be found in the August issue of Sport Rider magazine. There is a great article on the RC51. It explains some of the changes between the SP1 & SP2.

00-01 SP1, 02 is an SP2

Edwards, then Hayden, both Southern boys, made their name riding RC51s winning championships, US and WSB, on them. This is where the term Duck eater came from. Coincidentally they are still the only two Americans still racing at MotoGP. Yesterday at Donington UK Edwards came 2nd while Hayden came dead last from those running.

So, from this I can deduce that the RC51 is the training wheels for champion level riding. Woooahhh!!!!!!!

My next bike will be an RSV4 Aprilia, I think.

I have a 2004 RC51 and RSVR Factory....just waiting on Motogp to call!!!

The RSV4 is a bad ass bike, and I think with it's engine design, it will be the benchmark for the next few years.
