Hi guys,
Had a quick search but couldnt find any similar posts/issues.
On numerous times I have had to replace the "sealing gaskets" between the standard exhaust sections on an '01 RC51/SP1.
It seems that the small downpipe section coming from the rear cyclinder, into the first joining piece is the most problematic, where after about 3 months or so of use, the "sealing gasket" will have effectively melted the outer coating part and be down to slivers of essentially wire wool, which of course means the exhaust blows and the middle section actually vibrates up and down.
Anyone else had the same problem or reached a resolution.
Due to the number of times I have already replaced the exhaust gaskets and the "soft as swiss cheese" clamps that are supposed to hold the exhaust sections together, (such as the problematic section that runs through the swingarm gap), I am looking at welding that section up, but know from experience how litle space and angle there is for actually getting the pipe sections in and out.
Hoping I can weld up that section without removing the rear shock but again, if anyone has any definitive info on this, it will be much appreciated.
Although I spoke to a main dealer who (as seems usual) said he hadnt heard of anyone with the same problem, I saw an SP2 this morning, where the same exhaust section had been welded up, so it must have annoyed someone else, not just be a unique problem to me.
Although I have also replaced the seals where the muffler sections push into the main part of the pipe, these seem to run much less hot and therefore sometimes can be reused whereas the rear cylinder one always needs doing, presumably its akin to a naked flame when it reaches this point ?.
I read earlier about using PTFE plumbers type tape but wonder if this would simply melt and liqufy and possibly even catch fire so not particularly keen on that possible solution either.
Cheers in advance.
