01 RC51 wont start problem

My 01 RC51 has been running beautiful until today. Today I turned on the bike and it was warming it just fine. While I was putting on my gear, my bike slowly died out and turned off. I realized that I was completely out of gas. I tried a few times to start the bike which it did but once I put it into gear it died out. So I went to get gas and I came back with about a gallon of 91 octane. I filled the gas tank up & realized that it was dripping on the edged of the gas tank hole going into a small little hole which I believe is the overflow valve. I realized that all that gas that went into that hole ended up outside of my left side of the frame. I tried starting my bike but it just stutters when trying to ignite it & wont even start no more. Does anyone have any advice on what my problem is? Someone told me it could be my PCII or fuel pump or fuel fuse

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

Hmmm... Did you try turning the switch off and on a few times to let the fuel pump prime a few extra times? Just an idea.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

Well first I tested to see if the battery was low or dying but it was running around 12.8 volts. I got the bike to start but found out new problems today with the bike. When test riding the bike around, at low RPMS the bike feels like it loses complete power and then all the sudden the power comes back which felt bad & dangerous. When I rode the bike about 1 mile down the street to the gas station, randomly the bike would stutter (lose power) and kick back in & while this is happening the FI light turns on then turns off. This happened within a 1 mile 4 times. I filled the bike up with 2 gallons probably totaling 3 gallons in the tank. I drove back home & it happens randomly again where I would lose power & the FI light would turn on & then turn off & then power would come back. Once I got into my neighborhood, the bike started going even more crazy, it starts to struggle to accelerate/hesitate & stutters, & begins Backfiring ALOT & for some reason my low fuel light turned on & then it died on me & wouldnt turn on lol. I had to roll that bitch home through the neighborhood. Once in front my house, I tried turning it on and it turned on fine like nothing happened. My friend believes its electrical because I am the 2nd owner and the wiring down on the back looks pretty crappy but nothing is being grounded/short circuited its just the wiring done on the bike is pretty shady. My friend also believes its the power commander 2 thats F'ing up the ecu bike. The power commander says I am running to lean and looks if-ffy becuz of the rust around the usb part of the power commander. Sorry for the long LONG explanation but I'm just trying to be descriptive to see if anyone had this type of problem or know a possible solution. Thank you.

Try removing the PC and running the bike without it.

What is low RPM's to you? If you are talking about anything under 3,000, then that is your problem, keep the revs up. This is not a car.

By the means of low RPMS i mean like taking off from a start. The power deliever is not constantly smooth & steady. I would keep a steady smooth throttle on & the bike would be delivering a constant steady power & then out of no where the power cuts off for a split second & then comes back on causing a bogging/stuttering effect. Like the bike is choking. Like I would be going out of a corner in 1st gear in my neighborhood & in the corner my bike would stop/cut delivering power completely for a moment/hesistates & then the power comes back.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

This might help with troubleshooting, I had a similar problem on my 2003 RC51

2003 RC51 WONT START HELP !!!

Do you have a service manual with wiring ? If not you should search it in fireblades and d/l

The clicking sound your getting sounds like the starter relay not getting enough power (Check all your grounds and battery) Good Luck

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

These engines do not like low RPM, that is what the clutch is for. The engine will complain when you are below 3,000 RPM, which is also lugging the engine. You can cause the bike to stall by doing so. Keep the RPM's up.

I would also check the BAS, the electrical connectors and the earth ground.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

I understand what you mean lanbrown. But its at all like that. I would be in 1st above 3000 rpm say 5k rpm with a very very steady throttle and all the sudden the bike begins to choke as if it wants to die out.

Dj Pusha, I was looking at your thread yesterday and my situation is very similar like yours. When starting the bike, it sounds really weak. I thought it was the battery but I tested the charges on the battery and it was holding a consistent 12 something volts. What was your exact problem and your solution for your bike? I feel its the power commander 2. I've been seeing alot of threads with RC51's having problems with there power commander.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

For my bike I found locations where the ground was bad

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...-1badwires.jpg

1. IGNITION PULSE GENERATOR
2. CAM PULSE GENERATOR (injector harness wire was bad)

You cant test the battery load correctly if there is a bad ground somewhere on the bike. I started removing the left fairing, Left radiator, lift gas tank (you can keep it connected for now) This was for me to get a visual on wires and there locations. Give it a try, you might see where there could be a problem.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

NO NO NO. This is the power commander. Pull it completely and take it for a test ride. I had the same exact problem and almost killed myself coming out of a corner when the bike decided instead of the 30mph I was doing it wanted to jump to like 60 with no change in throttle position. Very dangerous. I won't say that I am 100% but I'd be willing to bet complete removal of the powercommander will resolve this.

Re: 01 RC51 wont start problem

I couldn't find out the problem so I sent my bike to my mechanic & he found out the problem. He said a bad spark plug was loose and the fuel injection was completely off on the PC. I just got the bike back yesterday & its working Thanks for all the help.
