| It's doing it again So I had the ECM replaced in my SP1. Now, about 400km later, it starts breaking down again and the FI light keeps coming on. No codes stored in the ECM.........is this thing a lemon or what? |

| Re: It's doing it again After seeing the gremlins Im chasing down............frayed wiring harnesses.. and seeing comments by others with running rough, problems. etc. ........... I would be willing to bet you have a wiring problem that is showing.. Just a guess..
Not easy to trace out or find .. but would start tracking wiring runs..........
Could be in left field.. but think the twin is hard on wiring due to the vibration....... |

| Re: It's doing it again Yeah a chaffing problem more than likely. I put the wire protecting plastic all over my harness where i could on my SP2. |

| Re: It's doing it again Thanks guys, would someone know the week spots in the wiring harness to start looking for rather than looking in the wrong spot first. |

| Re: It's doing it again I suppose i should give a little more information with regards to it 'breaking down'. The bike runs fine for about 20 - 30 minutes then the engine shuts down for about half a second, at the same time the FI light comes on. Then it runs fine until it does it again, this could take up to 5 km's. The further it is riden, the more often it does it until it is almost every 20 seconds. I'm about to disconnect the PC and check the wiring now. I hope someone has some idea. |

| Re: It's doing it again Wires that are tight at a distance next to the frame may resonate sound and vibration and either break or strip their insulation.
One may be linking a sensor and while it is sending a 0.3V signal back it is grounding somewhere and throwing the ECU off. So I would back trace all the various sensors and their wiring.
I hear more Sp1s having problems than Sp2s though, is this a correct observation? |

It should read @13.5-15.5v; this will tell you the alternator is charging the battery, and the voltage regulator/rectifier is metering that voltage output in the correct range.
I was just thinking if the voltage reg/rect isn't working (not uncommon for this to go on bikes), then the bike is running off the battery and when that drains after a few miles things electrical start running amok.
In your case it sounds more like a short somewhere, but I'd eliminate this first. You'll probably need a multimeter if you're going to track that down, so for the tenner it'll cost you (along w/a Haynes manual!), it's well worth it.
Good luck! |

| Re: It's doing it again Yeah, I already have a multimeter and a workshop manual so I'll check it today. Also gonna check the earths on the battery and the frame/engine. Thanks for the reply. |

| Re: It's doing it again Well.....I had the battery checked, it's ok. Checked all wiring, can't see any problems there either. Disconnected the PC3, over short rides it seems ok for the breaking down fault but it still has a huge hiccup when stopping and letting it idle (like at the lights) almost dies. Smells rich as hell when stopped. Gonna reconnect the PC3 and spray all connections with contact enhancer. |
