Need more Power

Hey everyone. I will start by saying I LOVE the RC51 I have a 2000 sp1. My only thing is I would like to get a little more power out of her. I have the ez mods like K&N, custom h&h exhaust, PCII and 1 down 2up 520 conversion (other mods pazzo levers, stainless steel brake lines, castrol plastics and have ordered a bunch of carbon parts). I love my bike but is there anything I can do to get a little more out of her? sorth of HRC for the motor.

thanks

Re: Need more Power

More top end power? more mid-range? quicker through the twisties? or do you just want to go faster in a straight line?

Re: Need more Power

If i could get a good amount a mid-range for the twisties and a little more top end that would be good. The bike has alot of low end and good mid rage since I did the sprockets but I would like a little more mid to high.

Re: Need more Power

1. Sato's are widely known as the best slip-ons to make power. other than that your looking at a variety of akro's full systems, which range from the two levels normally available to the basic racer and complete racer systems (both are rare and go for about 2k-4k depending on condition, and you'll never find a new one) The latter are also going to need mucho-motor work for them to actually help you though.

2. All the exhaust in the world isn't going to help unless you get it tuned on a dyno by a competent technician.

3. Ditch the k&n, if anything it's hurting you. Go back to OEM.

4. Wheels wont make any more power, but they will make you accelerate faster (and handle better) which is the goal.

5. Go on a diet. Your weight is just another thing the engine is working against.

6. Get a Thorsten airbox. There is a company called Turn One which makes copies and sells them on ebay sometimes. You don't need the carbon one either, fiberglass will get the same effect.

Other than that, it's opening up the engine for: Cams, port and polish, valves, valve springs.

Comprehensive answer from b.miller123

If that doesn't do it I guess you need to invest in NOS, turbo or SC. Wonder if another extra tooth or two on the rear sprocket will give you what you're looking for.

Re: Need more Power

dont forget abou the soft rev limiter mod. theres a few more ponies to be had at the upper rpm range that you arent tapping into . and in my opinion you are over gearing your rc. yes it comes from factory with tall gearing but one down and two up is too muchin my opinion. i run with some really fast guys on 1000s and you are going to want to run your gears out a lil longer if you want to stay in the game when the road opens up. if this bike had a higher redline then i could see goin with such drastic gearin but it doesnt . the fact that it redlines early has the opposite effect on top end of this bike when it comes to gearing. i have one down in the front and i think its too much. next time im gonna go one down in the front and one down in the back.

Re: Need more Power

I believe efficiency goes down when gears become smaller so you lose some power. It might be better to go back to 16 and 43 or so.
Imagine if your sprocket had 2 teeth what it would do to the chain, while if you had a 30 in front and 90 in the back how nice it would flow
