| clicking/ticking noise when decelerating I have an 04 RC51 (bone stock) with 10k miles on it.
Lately when riding, i've noticed a clicking/ticking noise only when decelerating in gear (with the throttle fully closed). I've searched and can't seem to find the source of this noise.
It seems that sometimes if I just crack open the throttle a little, the noise will stop, but once fully closed it starts again (in gear). The noise will slow down as the bike slows down, but it seems to be more speed dependent rather than RPM dependent (although it's hard to tell).
The noise doesn't happen in neutral, or when revving the bike or accelerating, only when decelerating in gear under load with the throttle closed.
Bike runs strong other than that noise. help? it's driving me crazy |

| Re: clicking/ticking noise when decelerating Chain and/or sprocket irregularity? If you rotate your rear tire does the chain tension change? |

| Re: clicking/ticking noise when decelerating doesn't seem to...if it was a chain or sprocket wouldn't the noise also be apparent when accelerating or just cruising along? |

| Re: clicking/ticking noise when decelerating When accelerating the chain stretches on the top side and when decelerating on the bottom. So something along the top side may be making the noise, maybe a broken slider, chain too loose, a frozen messed up link, something caught inside the cover where the countershaft sprocket is, chain cover maybe bent somehow...
If you have a rear stand or can jack it up and rotate the rear wheel it may become obvious. Quote:

| Re: clicking/ticking noise when decelerating hey im almost 100% sure that the clicking noise you hear is the same one i hear from my 04, when i was installing frame sliders you replace this long bolt with another longer one that holds the sliders and in between the bolt and the engine there is a spacer thats not tight around the bolt, i was also concern about this clicking but now im not, i hope this helps you out, you can reach it and move it around, i'll attach a pic of where it is. /Users/momdad/Desktop/HJ1004066064.gif |

| Re: clicking/ticking noise when decelerating AKY: I'm getting the same noise under the same circumstances. It just started happening the last few weeks; only when decelerating and it goes away after a few seconds.
Did you ever resolve this? Cleaning up my chain right now but it seems to happen for a few seconds when I'm completely stopped.
I hope it's nothing engine/transmission related... |

Originally Posted by MACI4LIFE how many miles on the chain and sprocket? how do the teeth look on the sprocket? are they hooked at all? | I'm the original owner and the chain and sprocket have 8800 miles on them. Comparing it to most of the images of hooked sprockets, mine seem pretty straight.
However, would this matter if I'm still hearing the noise when I'm standing still and the chain/sprocket aren't moving?
BTW: this is for a Ninja 250 '08. I use it for commuting and take it to the track about once a month. This is probably the only forum I can find with the same symptoms like me. |
