Downgrading from an rc51 to ... Any experience/input?

Okay so my first bike is an r1 and then sold that and got an rc51 sp1. I been riding my rc for about two years now I can hold my own on twisty and can get down if needed(I have about 4 mm of chicken strip up front. Back is gone ofcourse) and I gotten use to Its power capabilities. Love the bike but I'm curious about th 600 ss.

I been thinking of downgrading. Have anyone else done so? Any regrets? A lot of people tell me I will get bored bc of power difference. Btw this is also my low mile commute no freeways though

Not sure if this helps but I just went from a 954 to an RC51 this past weekend and its a huge difference after almost 6 years on the 954. Not sure about going from an RC down to a 600 I'm sure that would be like night and day too.

An R1 was your first bike, very first, and you survive to talk about it? This is a dangerous statement for all those teenagers out there day dreaming.

The Honda 6rr will feel like a scooter but a great bike. It is SMALL! You are making the same error at looking at max. hp figures, when you should be looking at the area under the torque curve. If you must I'd think about the GSX-R750, the Tr675, and the Duc 848. You'll still be stuck around your area turning the same corners. With a zx14 you might explore into Utah and Idaho

Yes an r1 learned a lot from it although I always recomend a 250 to 600cc to my friends who ask about starter. I just feel that I miss out on something that a 600 can offer LOL. Anyways not caught up in hp numbers but rather how the powerband is. One thing I love on the rc51 is it's trq at low rpm. I recently drove a 95 gsx600f and that fealt like a slug all ower the rpm. I'm not crazy with high hp at max otherwise I'll be on the r1 right now. I'm just curious will the torque that the rc have make me miss the bike if I down grade? I have thought of 600rr or 675 daytona as I'm not a fan or gixxer.

Will it be trully be night and day?

Btw curious on the twisty does the weight of the rc51 hold u guys back? At times it feels that the bike can't follow a line bc it's heavy. And that's how it feels at time when I go into a turn at the same speed that my buddy in a 600 gsxr take. And the bike feels lightweight otherwise as I'm sure you guys know but I have hit some turns where he just blows me away. And skills wise were preaty the same level xcept his bike is an 07 model and mines 2000 rc.

On a tight course/track or even slippery one, they might be faster but you have to learn their ways. You will be able to yank that throttle open on the 600 way before you did on the RC or R1. The GSX-f is a slug compared to the SS bikes but it may even have more power down low.
Like the 2strokes you have to be in the right gear or it is like a dead engine.
Despite of what comparison tests tell you about them there is a big difference in feeling and ergonomics among them. The ZX feels more like a bike where the CBR feels like a 250 racer. For general fun and street riding I think in 6 months you will be looking for an other RC but you will be faster on it after the 600 experience. You will then pay attention to where you are at4k rpm in the curve or at 8krpm. At 4k rpm the RC makes more power than a 600 at 9k rpm. The RC makes you a lazy rider, like it is an automatic.
I never thought my 500 2stroke was that bad till I get back on it after the RC.

Re: Downgrading from an rc51 to ... Any experience/input?

get a 600, you'll love the high rpm's, i switch from my rc to my little cbr every other day, the cbr is more easy to ride because of the light weight, i feel a little big on it, (im 5.8) and my friends tell me i look like a kid when im on the RC. i use the 600 more for a commuter bike and the RC for bike nights, there both fun to ride on twisties, but the RC sounds and feels more manly, my suggestion is not to downgrade but get another bike. Dont sell your RC, they never get old.

The RC is in a class of it's own. Going to a 600RR is not considered a downgrade in my book. But, you will miss the RC. I did. That's why I went back to one. But I also have a 1000RR.

I am in Boston, plenty of twisties up here and in NH. I have to be honest the RC drops in on the turns like nothing I ever rode before. It sucks in traffic, the frame gets too hot, but it is the way it handles in the twisties that really makes me smile.

I see you are in Cali - take it up into the canyons in the morning with no traffic and play around. I am pretty sure you will be very suprised at how well it pulls through the turns.

The RC shines in the twisties. Not heavy at all in them! Actually its not that heavy of a bike. But compared to other liter bikes, it's a pig.

So far in my extremely short time on the RC it feels heavy compared to the 954 but only at extremely slow speeds like starts and stops and in parking lots ect. At speed it feels very nimble and solid in turns.

if your RC is too heavy, look into purchasing the sawzall weight reduction system.

Yes I have taken her to the twisty plenty of times since I'm like 10 minutes away from it LOL. I know what you guys mean she diffenately cut corners like she's on rail BUT in a quick transision turn I have to basically have to really over power the bike in order for it flip from a complete left lean to a complete right lean. I mean knee draggin lean. That how ever isn't my concern since I figure it's mainly bc I'm only 135 lbs. My concern is in a not so smooth corner she starts to bump up and down like a boat-this is why I ask about the weight issues. I have set the suspention to my weight and it still does it when I lean on a road that is uneven.

Re: Downgrading from an rc51 to ... Any experience/input?

Have you ridden an SM bike? If you can borrow, test ride one on the same route then you will understand how wrong your RC suspension is set up for bumpy tight corners. The SM will run circles around the RC, the ZX6, and CBR1000.
What you gain in high speed smooth wide corners you lose on tight bumpy stuff. On the street your suspennsion is a compromise of the mix and you have to be aware of this while setting up.
Weight alone is not a solution to suspension limitations, it does make life easier, but when your suspension is not working on bumpy corners it is because it is too stiff for it, and so is the frame. Maybe softer springs and valve adjustments to match will help you out. I switched bikes one time with a friend on a known route with a much heavier sport tourer that I had never ridden before. I was more comfortable going around same type of corners with that heavy bike than I was with mine.
