Is this normal

Came in today from a 45 min ride to find the rear tyre starting to show some wear on the outer eadge of the rear tyre and was just wondering if this is normal ?

SP1, 208'S, 42 PSI rear

Any help warmly welcome, thanks

Re: Is this normal

Just put in as is stated in service manual 42 rear / 36 front

I done a quick pressure test as soon as I got off the bike and it was reading 45.5 psi......... Just out of interest I dropped the pressure to 42 while the tyre was still warm, left it for an hour, checked it again and the pressure went down to 38.5 psi

Would I be better leaving the pressure at around 38 so when the tyre heats up it runs at 42 ?

Thanks in advance Denver

Re: Is this normal

lots of people are different with tire pressure. lots of different factors to consider, especially for guys at the track often . for the street running 35psi front, 38psi rear, im 250 pounds, feels better at that psi with bt016 bridgestones

Re: Is this normal

Pressure at heat is going to be different at cold, so go figure. My question is how old is the tyre??

Tyre pressures should be checked when the tyre is cold.

Re: Is this normal

Thanks for the replies guys

Setanta, the tyre was new when I picked the bike up about 4 weeks ago, but because of work I have had little chance to get out and use it

This wear has only started on the last run out and was really noticeable

Might not have mentioned this before but the tyre is a D208 - 180 - 55 - 17

There is nothing wrong with the tire. So you brought it to the edge!
You will get that with a 180 55 17 rear.
The pressure you are running is ok if you stick with it and have good feedback from it. I like to run a bit less than the recommended. Right now I'm running 34 front 36 rear.

Re: Is this normal

Thanks Bigtoe

The bike feels fine at this pressure and gives you a little notice when its had enough on the roundabouts

Was just worried in case I was damaging the tyre by over inflating it

Much happier now

Thanks to everyone for the help much appreciated

I will load some pics of my front and rear tires, lots of rough cement here in texas, easily wears down the outer edges

Good idea, thanks

There is some patches of 'shell grip' over here, usually leading into roundabouts, then the normal diesel covered tarmac for the fun bit
