Rear cowl alignment?

Should I just get over it and relax or is there a way you make the rear seat cowl flat in the front and the back? It is flat in the front but in the rear it sticks out a little more than I'd like. Should I just let it go or is there a way to fix it I tried a bunch of silly stuff and cant get anything to make it all even. I was thinking of removing the little tiny foam liner on the back part but its so thin I dont thing it would even flatten it out at all.

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

I had to go and look at mine, as I tend to ovelook non mechanical details, and my rear seat cowl is flat in the back and raised in the front.
As I don't think the tail section has anything to do with the cover's position, which latches against the frame and lock, it may be that both our tails are misaligned against the cover. I'm going to wait for the sun to fall on the other side of the garage to go and have a try to see what's going on.
I see you have no rear fender, and so do I. But do you have a whole undertail piece installed or is it just the back fender sawn off?
I'm going to try to losen the bolts that hold the tail with the main seat off and see if I can reposition it and retighten the bolts.
Otherwise some seams may be required to change its angle.

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

I store the bike away from my place during the week so this weekend I'll fiddle with it again maybe. the previous owner chopped 1/4 of the original fender off and installed another undertail under it

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

I too couldn't find time to go fiddle with it yet as I had promised as I have been consumed by an electrical short on my commuter bike.
That tail section has a fault in its design, as it has to spread too wide to fit on or off the tail and it can crack in its obvious weak point that bents the most. So be really careful if you take it off. The reason I asked for the undertail is that since most of them are not an easy fit, some of the stretching and pulling they do to fit together may be affecting how they align with the rear seat cover. I am not 100% sure but if i can remember right the cover will go on without the tail section, with the exception of being a bit lose from sealing against that rubber gasket that goes inside the tail rectangular hole. As my tail section seems to have to be lifted in the front, whil yours lowered in the back, I wonder by losening the mounting bolts and aligning it and then retighten it will cure that gap.

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

I'll try and mess with the seal/foam stuff, addind some in the front maybe that will lower the rear section. if i could just adjust that metal hook that connects in the rear i know it would line up right its just a tiny bit off

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

I got 10' of high density foam tape weatherstrip 1/2" X 3/4" I will have plenty to experiment with and chop up.

mine is lined up in the back and a little lifted in the front. Curious to see how it works out for you...?

Re: Rear cowl alignment?

so I peeled off the crappy honda liner and placed the plastic back and it lines up perfectly. I'm glad i didnt cut and stick the new weatherstrip on there. who knew that crappy tiny foam strip was causing all my problems. Goodluck guys getting yours lined up sorry I don't have any answers for you.
