Honda are releasing a new V4

Check out the link:

Honda V4 - Alive and Kicking

Its a new V4, with a comp to enter for a test ride, plus some downloads of other V4's.

Worth a look, but it isnt going to replace the RC51

Re: Honda are releasing a new V4

This was in MCN the otherr week - now we all know that you have to take their stories with a pinch of salt, but they had 'spy shots' of testing for this new V4.

From memory, there were 'spy shots' of the bike being tested - the usual grainy images of a black bike covered in gaffa tape.

MCN claimed it was the new VFR1200. It looked like a similar kind of bike to the BMW K1300S - a long, shaft driven sports tourer. MCN said there would be 3 versions - the sporty one, a tourer one and eventually a BMW GS1200-style big trailie.

Should be interesing to see the end products.

It would be a great tourer if it had 170hp.

It looks like a VFR in the front, it is as long looking as a ZX14, it has a tail like a CB1000R or a late CBR 1000, it has a funky exhaust, and it sounds like ...... an other V4.

Have you seen it in flesh?

I hate the new exhausts they are bringing out - bring back the old ones (like whats on my VFR/954RR!)

Apparently one of the test riders claimed that the engine makes the new Blade feel flat..... if that's true, I can't see a lack of power being an issue

Re: Honda are releasing a new V4

I'm anxious to see it but it doesn't seem to replace a VFR a 1000RR or an RC51. Just what slot will it fit into? Hypersport maybe to compete with the 1300 BMW and Hyabusa. Also called open class GT. Maybe the same displacement wise but very light weight and compete with litre bikes.

Man, I've always been saying, put out a Liter or bigger VFR and I'm buying it....looks like I might have to scrap the ideas for an 1KRR ABS

I'm interested to see what it's like too, could make an awesome road bike if they get it right.

Re: Honda are releasing a new V4

The VFR seems from the spy pictures to compete against the BMW-K market, not the Haya-ZX14 markets. Neither will it have as much power and it most definitely will outweigh them. If it is called a 1200 I bet it will be aroun 1150cc, or 200cc less than the bikes you mentioned.
In tourer form what would it be more of than the GTR14?

This is going to be a funky upper class bike that will be parked at private clubs next to BMWs. Meanwhile it leaves vacant the true sport tourer class the VFR was for the F800 to occupy alone.

I did think the under seat ones looked quite racey, but as soon as they brought out the ones like whats on the new CBR1000RR I began to go off of them.

The 09 R1 still has underseat ones, but they look as big as the B-Kings!

I think they are trying to reduce weight but in the end they are screwing with the overall looks of the bike.

Taylormade/Aftermarket look a whole lot better but it still looks as if they have just been stuck on by a disabled man who was playing pin the donkey.

Re: Honda are releasing a new V4

Ugliness is in the eyes of the beholder. The VFR is already a pig, 75% increase in displacement will not make it lighter or a sportier tourer, nor is it going to compete with tourers like the BMW K1200, Yam FJR1300, or Kaw GTR1400 by the looks of it.
In a class by itself selling to the show off at the country club. A biker wannabe!
