| Re: Went down this weekend First question from me is hows you?
Not sure where you from so I dont know how the insurance works there.
Ins should give you the market value of the bike as when you crashed, so you shouldnt lose too much, I guess

| Re: Went down this weekend Did you tell them about the modifications you added to her? If they don't know about them, they may try and wriggle out by saying you mis-led them and therefore your insurance was invalid.
If you insurance is still valid, they will probably only give you what its worth on the market. (Over here, depending on what degree it was written off, they may only pay up to 80% of the market value - might be cheaper to buy it back and re-build it again)

| Re: Went down this weekend I turned out fine. I never leave the garage with out full gear. As for the RC she didnt make it out to good. Damage to the tank, cans, front, right side and tail plastics. Pulled it all off and found the busted snorkel. Cross your fingers for me. I would hate to have to find another RC. We are still waiting to hear back from the ins. Just worried about the California laws on salvage titled bikes. |

| Re: Went down this weekend Get what you can out of the insurance and the bike, then part it out on eBay and find an other. It is a buyers' market anywhere you look and plenty of RCs with real low miles going cheap. If you have any expensive aftermarket parts that are salvageable (carbon air box, Ohlins shock, etc.) keep them for the next bike.
I am now living in a very similar to So.Cal climate, hot and dry, dusty, and have learned that despite of the heat asphalt loses traction as it is melting and releasing oil to the surface, blended with blowing dust and contaminants it is scary slippery. I like riding in the dark though and when it cools off and becomes more solid in the early morning hours with all the idiots sleeping still, it is pure joy!
Bikes can be replaced or fixed, people can't! I;m glad you are ok enough to write. Imagine you could be writing with your chin, doubt you would be writing about fixing the bike though, drinking through an IV bottle etc.
I can;t repeat this enough, unless you really have to, don't ride alone in remote areas. Have riding buddies and set rules with them about NOT racing each other or passing in curves, and constantly be within eye-sight of each other. learn basic CPR and at least one have a medical kit with you. There is nothing like being broken up in a ditch where nobody will ever see you dying from simple wounds and dehydration/hypothermia. |

| Re: Went down this weekend Glad you are still here to chat about it Dan
I bought an RC51 a couple of months ago and will be giving a full respray over the winter
To give you an idea of cost for used original plastics and tank, including an air box, total came in under £300 ( all off ebay )
Hope the insurance works out good for you, take care |

| Re: Went down this weekend If you have the original receipts for everything you have added, you can give them a copy to help ensure you get the most money you are entitled to. I have experienced this myself. Also if you wish to buy the bike back from them when they 'Total' it, be sure that they send you a check for the amount owed minus the cost of the bike. If they send you a check for the total amount and you cash it, then the bank or their salvor will own the bike and it is not likely you will be able to get it back. This is because they are limited to their options once you have cashed the check due to laws regarding ethical business practices to keep the salvor honest. It is similar to how you can keep speeding tickets off your record by overpaying for the ticket and not cashing the reimbursement check they send you.
GOOD LUCK BRO! |

Would you call this luck, it seems this bike is missing what you have, or your is missing what it has.
In 8 days you can use the evidence against the insurance if it helps your argument. Quote:

| Re: Went down this weekend Make sure the insurance company uses local prices (SOCAL ONLY) because there is a huge difference in RC51 prices outside of Southern California. I got my 05 in AZ for $4500 with 15K a few months ago. Socal prices are almost double everywhere elses prices. I'm not saying the socal RC51 people are getting the crazy high prices they are asking but that is not stopping them from trying! Hopefully this Socal pricing bubble helps you get a nice fat check from the Ins company. Plus they will probably let you buy it back for next to nothing too. Goodluck |

| Re: Went down this weekend Well talked to the insurance co and it turns out that the salvage title bike i bought is not a salvage title bike at all.. If it was a salvage titled then they would give me $3500 for it. turn out that I have about 5g's in damages and the bikes is valued at 8g's.. wahoo the RC gods are looking out for me.. Is it time to go with a full carbon fiber kit tank and all or just let the dealer take it back to original?? Them me what you think? |

If user friendly is what you like buy a VFR or a Hornet, a BMW F800 maybe? |
