| carbon fiber fairings how many fellow RC 51 owners are interested in carbon fiber parts for their bikes. I am starting up a business offering these products.
I will be offering these parts at a much lower price than you can get from any other supplier.
these parts will be produced here in the USA with quality resins and carbon fabric. you can tell cheap carbon parts by the way they spider crack and chalk out if you know what i mean.
This chalking and cracking is attributed to the use of cheap resin. my parts offer a durable non chalking finish as they are finished with an Automotive clear coat. If you are interested please reply to this post. Other models will be offered as soon as i develop the tooling for them |

| Re: carbon fiber fairings Will you be making your products in Loveland? If so, I'll have to stop by sometime and check out your operation.
And I would gladly bring you my 1000rr if you want to use the fairings to make molds...but then I get free CF fairings

This winter would work the best because then I can just load up the bike and bring it down or just strip the fairings and bring them down so then I'm not out of a bike at the end of riding season. Once you get up and going I would love to come down and check out your setup and maybe watch/help a little if you would allow it.

| Re: carbon fiber fairings Hello everyone, I can now take orders either here or at my personal email address Afflicted92@live.com . I will however require a 50% down payment to secure your order before production takes place. The second installment will be expected to be received before your parts are shipped. I am also offering these same fairings in fiberglass at a lower price, simply put fiberglass is cheaper to produce . I can also paint your fairings as I am a certified paint/refinishing technician in the automotive industry. please specify desired fabric makeup ie carbon, carbon kevlar, etc. Please keep in mind that producing composite products takes time. There may be up to a two to three week period between the time your order is confirmed and when you receive your parts. This is due to the fact that I am a one man operation at the moment, and also to control order volume. I will be happy to communicate with you as the fabrication process takes place. Thank you everyone for your support and enthusiasm for my new venture and products. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have on any composite product or fabrication process
Prices are as follows
RC51 complete set carbon fiber $1000 plain weave or 2x2 twill
RC51 complete set fiberglass $600 8 oz. plain weave
I will post pictures of weave types in my next post

| Re: carbon fiber fairings What type of resin do you use, and is the finish glossy or mat/flat?
Almost all polyester based resins, even the best isopthalic, suffer with UV exposure and tunr yellowish and harden till they begin to crack and spider web if the outter coat is too thick, or show off a rough finish of fabric showing through the surface. Many epoxy resins also turn a yellowish tint but some are more resistant to UV than others and some are clear at all times. Vinylester resins fall in between price and physical strength of polyester and epoxy. Kevlar especially, but carbon as well, when exposed to UV deteriorates and loses some of its good qualities over time, so it must be protected as well even though the resin is resistant. Some manyfacturers use a PU varnish that has high UV filtering ability over the finished product either glossy or flat. This has to be replaced after some time depending on exposure.
With the prices of stock plastics being enormous, ABS is total crap when compared to real composites. The cheap chinese FG stuff is crap as well as it is too heavy and flimsy, made predominantly with a chopper gun of random cut threads being splashed on a mold where the ratio of fiber to resin is less than 25% at best. It is the fibers that produce strength not the resin. Resin is much heavier/denser than ABS, but equally crappy, in composites it simply holds the fibers in a certain direction glued to each other and not separating, as cement is to concrete holding rebar together.
If Honda was to sell what this guy here is making they would charge 4 times as much, but it is not even worth their time tool for composite manufacturing and quality control. |

| Re: carbon fiber fairings I use West system Epoxy resin not polyester. Wow you sure seem to know your composites well. the West 105 resin with their 207 hardener is the combination i use. It's remarkably clear and really wets out the raw carbon well. It also features a higher heat resistance. this resin has uv inhibitors built in, but for added protection I top coat it with high solids clear coat, PPG DCU 2042. All my tooling is tooling grade gel coat, and is made of carbon, no glass as glass warps over time. I have painstakingly polished it to a mirror finish. the viewable side is mirror smooth and the other has the peel ply finish. In addition I weigh my resin to ensure proper dry material to resin ratio. My current molding operation consists of vacuum bagging under 1 atmosphere of vacuum. I use all the required media to ensure proper saturation peel ply breather media etc. I do agree that most manufacturers produce an inferior product that's why i bag versus a standard wet layup. All my carbon parts are 100% carbon no fillers. |

| Re: carbon fiber fairings A few questions:
Are they street replacement or track body work?
Can you do the kevlar weave in blue instead of yellow?
Does your lower meet race spec by being closed and holding oil?
The 02 and up have slightly different exhaust routing have you checked this?
Clearance, I know this is harder but I currently run Sharkskinz. They have great fit and work but I need to run a small patch of duct tape on the left rear since at full lean and compression it drags (the duct tape works as a sacrificial scuff and I replace it after a few track days)
Lastly will the product be delivered before the credit card protest period expires (I think 30 days but could be wrong). Sorry to bring this up but I saw the Durrani wheel debacle and while your deposit rule is fair I also would need to be careful of non-delivery just in case (those that weren't got skinned by Durrani). I realize you are not him (and I doubt you have ill intent) but it is just good practice to be careful.
thanks

Would you be interested in doing a carbon kevlar (yellow weave) on an exhaust canister heel guard? If you could it would make one of the better finishing touches to the replica build I'm currently working on.
Let me know some pricing including shipping.
Thanks in advance!!
