Power Commander Options - QUICK!

I just found a cheap CrapBay auction for a PC IIIr. I've read that the usb version is upgradable while the IIIr is not. The bidding is at less than 100. What are the differences between the PC III and the PC IIIr, and which is the better option?

I run an almost stock '02 with Yosh slip-ons, valve flapper mod and -1 in the front (so far....)

So now I've found a PC III usb for ~$150....

I'm sure this has been previously discussed, but I'm wondering if anyone have a quick answer for me, I may jump on this in the next half an hour...

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

I run a pc3r and it does most of what anyone on the street or track needs. PC3usb doesn't have ignition adjustment but adds ability to add quick shifter later and has finer adjustments than pc3r. PC3usb maps are a little more common too...

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

Will this PC III work for my 02 SP2 if I get the new map, or is there a wiring issue? I'm not familiar with the installation.

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

The plugs for the injector harness wont match....also you'd have to manually enter every fueling number/500 rpm.

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

Ok, so what about a PC III usb for an 01 SP1? Will the wiring work for that or did the connections change from SP1 to SP2?

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

Yes, the part # is diff but it will work if swapped.

The injection system changed from SP1 to SP2;
Larger Throttle Bodies
Different Injector layout
ECU Change

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

So the procedure would be, install the PC III usb for the 01 in my 02, download the 02 map that is appropriate for my bike... and I should be good, correct?

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

Almost.
The numbers in the fueling table will need to be transferred individually by you I believe.

Thats what you do with a 954 commander on a 929

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

How painful is that process?

I don't mind spending some time doing it if it's going to save me a couple hundred bucks

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

so could I use this in my 02? Would I have to transfer the fuel numbers manually? How do I do that? it is worth saving me the ~$100?

Re: Power Commander Options - QUICK!

I believe you will find the connectors for the SP-1 are of an entirely different shape than the SP-2. I'm sure someone can (and will) correct me if I am mistaken.
