| Black Frame Repair So I've owned my SP2 for over a year now, and I finally decided to take off the big stupid stickers that were stuck on my frame between my tank and plastic. I took the sticker off of the right side to reveal some nasty looking scratches. They are through the black coat, but not into the metal. Does anyone know of a good fix for this? (And I mean something a little more permanent than a black sharpie) |

| Re: Black Frame Repair Mines got a few light scatches (looks like something has been rubbing at it for a while - i've just put it down to the previous owner...)
Other than touching it up - might make it worse - I'm out of ideas.

| Re: Black Frame Repair apparently the black coat on the frame is done from a plating process, it isn't a powder coat. The powder coat could, conceivably, be repaired, but the entire frame would need to be re-plated to get the same look. I'm still not sure how to fix the apperance. The guy at my local shop suggested filler and then painting the whole right side of the frame, but I'm wondering if anything else exists. If anyone learns of anything, let me know! |

| Re: Black Frame Repair That's what I was told by a local dealer as well with my 929'. I found out this not to be true and you can order the paint from Honda. "Core Black Metallic"
6778948 NH-377M. Air brushed on for touch up with a little feathering and my bike is looking pretty fricken slick. But like I said it is a 929 but looks the same as my bud's 51.

| Re: Black Frame Repair Mine where the plastic comes close to the frame rails I guess from vibration and wind pressure it flexes and touches the frame and has made some mild rub marks to the coating. I suspect the method of anodizing the frame may be similar to what they do to guns, hence gunmetal gray!
So if you have any friends who are into restoring old riffles or something they may know a trick we peace warriors don't! |

| Re: Black Frame Repair Not exactly what you asked, but because the frame on RC's gets so hot I took computer wrist pads (the ones that sit in front of the keyboard- like a mouse pad but thicker) black ones, cut them to shape and glued them to the frame with spray adhesive.
It actually looks good, and the benefit is my legs no longer suffer in traffic. |

| Re: Black Frame Repair were they stickers from the prior owner or are they Honda factory stickers. Just wondering how those marks got under there if they are factory stickers |

| Re: Black Frame Repair I'mn pretty sure the dealer that I bought the bike through put the stickers on to cover the scratches. They were sellign it on consignment, so they probably thought they could make a little more money if i didn't see the scratches. They thought right I supposed. |

| Re: Black Frame Repair I tell you, go to the dealer and ask for the touch-up paint in my above post. I would be shocked if it were not the same.

| Re: Black Frame Repair Will do. is it a spray bomb or do you have a spray gun? Or could I just use a q-tip to touch up the spots. Obviously a spray gun would yield the best results, but how did you do it? |

| Re: Black Frame Repair Mine was a little different as I elected to do away with the Honda VIN sticker on the frame and it did not come off as clean as my first bike. So we're talking a little bit more area as well as the frame was not painted as thorough as I would have liked (cost, weight, who knows?) So I took my airbrush and feathered each side to put a little more paint on. I also took the time to paint the mounting plates for a set of aftermarket (Attack) rearsets so they did not stand out like a Christmas tree ornament on my ride. I believe in your case the Q-tip method would suffice. I've also used the back of paper matches as well. With the airbrush I thinned out and added a transport agent to apply (1 part to 3 parts)
