Hope to addopted in the family soon !!!

SORRY FOR THE LENGTH I'm home bound

Hello hope you are all in good health. My name is James Hoover and I live in the Allegheny mtns of VA, and only an hour from the blue ridge pkway. I looked at the 51's last summer and was talked out of it for the purchase of a S4RS monster that was CHERRY!! I loved the bike but was riding in fear of maintenance costs. SO I just couldn't enjoy it. I got it in Oct road it on one 250 mile ride and several shorter rides. Come spring I got it out for one ride in late march and then had a bomb dropped on me on Apr 3. I was diagnosed with AML leukemia that morning and was in a UVA hospital bed that evening by 3pm. 10 days on my back and 20 more days in the clinic each day. But to make a long story short I sold the ducati after riding it maybe 500 miles. I needed the $.

Now after much research and talking to people and reading these boards I should have bought the 51 to start with I may have been able to swing it. I have a real good lead on a local bike that is an 02 with only 3300 miles and a smoking price under 6k. I haven't been able to go look at it but the guy offered to keep it for me because he is going to trade it in the spring on a harley , but his loss my gain!!!

Just looking for some basic advise to look for on the bike and anything I need to have checked out before the buy? I really want one to do up in the gulf colors with orange wheels! SO where to powder coat? It has been a big surprise to me finding so many bikes with low miles? Then you'll see one with 25k on it. I really wanted a black bike but can't get one in the money range!! Gulf will look good too and be different. I have seen a couple on You tube that's it. Thanks to all and I have really enjoyed the website and look forward to contributing in the near future !! HOOVY

Hoovy, sorry to hear about the leukemia, I really hope the treatment is working for you.

I don't know a lot about the RC51's (SP1 / SP2 over here) but they are really nice bikes, and sound awesome with a nice pair of cans. I hope you get hold of your one soon (Much better than a Ducati...!!)

Isn't the blue ridge pkwy really limited and monitored for speeding or am I thinking of skyline drive?

Re: Hope to addopted in the family soon !!!

Yes the parkway and the Skyline drive are both monitored pretty close. Those are not the best places to ride in this area anyway. Rt 250 through Monterey is ranked in the top 10 every year by the magazines, then there is 33 from Harrisonburg up into WVA that is breath taking. Plus there are numerous local rides that would rank as amazing in anyone's book with great eats along the way too!!!
If anyone on here is coming through this way and wants some route advise feel free to drop me a line I will be glad to help out. Lots of neat lodging and small eats places that really stand out.

RIDE ON !!!!!!! James Hoover
