Popping through the intake?

I heard a ticking noise on my bike I thought was an exhaust leak (kind of a "chiff" sound), but now I head what sounds like a bird chirping type noise through the carbs on my bike when it warms up in addition to the first noise. There is only the exhaust leak kind of sound when it is cold. Could this be a tight intake valve or a bad cam chain tensioner? I had heard cam chain tensioners made the most noise when COLD. The bike still rides 100% and doesn't backfire at all, has 23k miles on it.Thanks for any help before I start tearing things apart!

Re: Popping through the intake?

listening to intake noises through the RC51's snorkel is anything but a science.

your flapper valve is constantly fluctuating to vacuum Hg changes and you'll hear every noiose that echos through the bike, from the airbox to the throttle body venturi harmonics.

disconnect and plug the flapper vacuum source and see if it stops.

i'm not dismissing your claim: i just don't know that i'd worry about it, without any performance losses or bad drivability to make it worth losing sleep over.

Exhaust leaks will present themselvees more as a "tick" than a "chiff". Don't forget that electronic fuel injectors have their own little somg as well when activated.
