| Is the VTR firestorm restricted? Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the VTR 1000 F (1998) is normally restricted in anyway? I have recently bought an anniversary edition which seems to peek at 140MPH, so I’ve been told, but it reaches this in 5th gear but goes no further. Any info would be greatfully received. |

If not then the VTR doesnt have to HP to go any faster. I think that you are mainly looking at climate, and aerodynamics. But you should see a little more than 140 on top though. Try having a go over on it and make sure that everything is n good running order (Carbs, jets, and stuff like that). |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? when i topped out 5th i was hitting 145-146 according to the crappy OEM speedo
i cant imagine that youd be topping out at 140 for a top speed |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? That is low. I can manage to get 265km/h (164 mph) & that is on a 1998 vtr1000.
Mind you, I have a stage one jet kit, staintune cans, ignition advancer, etc.
You could always replace your sprockets to get a higher top speed, but then you lose out on acceleration. How often would you need a high top speed anyhow??? |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? I dont know if u found a answer to ur question ,os im asking the same thing. The 100 VTR I have only goes up to 200KM/H then a restrictor seems to kick in and it wont go any faster. At that speed it is sitting on 6 RPM so it has the potential to go much faster ....Can u help?what did u find out about urs?My friend has the older 2001 model and hits speeds of 280Km/H .Like he has no restrictor.I think it is a electronic spped restrictor.Does anyone know how to diable it ??? |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? As far as I know, they have never restricted the speed for the VTR1000 ... You should get 240km/h with stock set-up and more with after market pipes, jet kit & different size sprockets.
I can get 265km/h. |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? No this bike definately seems like its restricted .When it gets to 200km/h on the dot it just starts cutting out .But it can rev all the way thru the rev range up till red line all the wy thru 1rst till 5th then as soon as it hits 200km/h it just stops there and wont allow u to go any faster |

A great bike if you can deal with the total lack of suspension and brakes on the front end.. I have 2 929's for the track and the VTR for coffee runs... would be a lot better if I swapped out the whole front end with a 929/954.
but I digress |

i have stage 3 dino, scorpion system, k+n filters,20 bhp kit and 1 tooth bigger on the rear sprocket and i have had her up to 173mph!! on track.
prior to that it seamed to have a limmiter on 1+2nd gear then max at about 144mph.
thinking about pollishing my wheels on her, any ideas on that??? |

| Re: Is the VTR firestorm restricted? Hello All,
Yes there are VTR's out there that do have restrictors. Most of the VTR's i.e. Firehawks, firestorm for USA spec and Britsh spec do not have restrictors.
99% of Jap imports have a 180 to 190km speed cut. You will feel it, Trust me!!!.
I have a VTR here in New Zealand and have being trying to find out how to remove it but no joy yet. Let me know if you have any ideas.
cheers |
