Will not turn over.

Hello, I'm new to this so bear with me.

Long story short I crashed my VTR at the trackl 2 yrs ago, fixed it up and got it running again all was well. Stored it with carbs drained, fuel off, battery on charger.

Went to get it running as I bought a new bike and was wanting to sell it.

It will not turn over... no clicks.. battery is fully charged.

Relay Starter has no continuity in ground. Clutch switch shows continuity as does neutral switch. Side stand ony has continuity with stand down. Even with the stand up (the indicator light goes out but no continuity via the tester)

I took the switch off and had a look everything was seated properly.

Whats the next step? more testing? replace the switch? something else that might be wrong. Again it was runing no problem post crash/ fix up.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds puzzling...I'm sorry but I have to ask. Is the kill switch on the right handle bar controls on???

If that switch is set to on the my next question is have you tried to crank it with the clutch held in to bypass kickstand kill switch?

RC

Well as it turns out it was the battery all along. Napa sold me one for 120.00 which also fits the RC. Yuasa wanted over 200.00 for there RC51 spec battery.

Re: Will not turn over.

Glad to hear it!
Similar story, let me just start from the starter relay. At ignition press, clicking is all I got. so I thought it was the battery let it charge up over 3 days. Came back same clicking after removing the seat I realized the clicking didn't come from the starter (selinoid) but from the relay. I knocked it around and got it going now the starter turns but thats it. The bike has been sitting for 3 years except wife of biker just let it sit no drained anything. When I spray starter spray into the carb it jumps but then drops right back off.
When I open the throttle all the way, on every starter rotation I hear the pistons lurch but they drop off over and over at every rotation of the starter. My wanna be mechanic friend says that her uncle used to just spray carb cleaner into engine intake while cranking until it cleaned out itself.

Do u guys think that'll work, let alone be safe for the bike? The guy that sold it (owners exwifes boyfriend) says the carbs need to be cleaned. Could carbs be so gummed up that I cant even get a few piston rotations with out complete failure. Id swear its just not getting fuel to the carborator. On a car I'd just take the fuel tube loose and see if fuel falls out, or even start the car and see if it shoots out. but since the damn tank sits right on the carb I don't know how to verify. Also when I took the tank off to drain the old fuel that was in there out. I put it upside down for a min with new fuel in it (I know stupid I should of put the empty tank on the refuelled). when upside down theres this slurping sucking sound. Whats that about?

Re: Will not turn over.

The pistons are cranking, thats a good thing. Again you need fuel/air/spark.

I'm not gunna lie 3 years unreated fuel in the carbs doesn't bode well. Your carbs should have a float bowl drain valve that you can access with a flathead screwdriver via the side of the bike. Try opening one and see if fuel drains out. If no then you could be really gummed up, if yes doesn't mean your out of the woods but at least fuel is getting there so it should fire. Check to see if you have spark. ( I do this by pulling all the plugs then grounding one against the frame and kicking it over). Hope that gets you started.

Re: Will not turn over.

Yip fuel rots in the tank or carbs.....do a good cleaing out.
I recomend if u leave a bike standing is to spray in a solution of release oil, keeps it from rusting also...posibly even diesel.
