OMG HELP PLEASE

So I have now offically owned my Superhawk for 72 hours. I have two problems with the bike. One is I have fully blasted the bike in first gear and my front wheel does not touch the ground until i shft. This is a big big problem as I can not get a sh*t eating grin off my face for alteast an hour.

Secondly I am in the progress of changing all the fluids and cleaning the carbs and balancing the carbs. I have had the bike just die on me a few times. once was on the corner while i let off the throttle. the other time was just sitting at idle in neutral at a light. I have read in a few places that cleaning and balancing the carbs fixes the issues. Is there anything I am missing? Sorry I just have a feeling that the bike was sitting where I bought it for a while. I know that the fuel could be bad as well. Also anyone have any recommendations on jets cause this thing is running rich.

Re: OMG HELP PLEASE

give it a good cleaning (carbs) and change the plugs and air filter, after that, it will make diagnosing it alot easier.

Re: OMG HELP PLEASE

I just bought a 2002 VTR1000 superhawk and I did something really stupid. I killed my battery. When I charged it up it kept dying by the next morning. I finally decided to charge it the let it run for a while. So I openned the choke turned the bike on and went inside. A few minutes later I realized I did not turn the choke off. When I came out of the house it was pouring boiling coolant down the driveway. I turned the choke off and the coolant stopped bubling over and a few minutes later I turned the bike off. I turned the bike on the next day and it seemed fine but I am scared to screw it up worse by riding it. Does anyone think the boiling coolant is an issue or should the bike be OK?

This is a serious problem but it can be corrected. I would suggest shifting to second and staying in the throttle with a little more lean back. This will reduce the sh*t eating grin. It may however be replaced with other issues ranging from giggling like a little school girl to uncontrolled laughing. Watch for this and adjust accordingly!!!

Sounds like carbs are your issues so you are headed in the right direction. Make sure you balance/sync the carbs well and get the idle set properly. Make sure you don't have a stuck or hanging rev to idle drop. As for the jetting ... if you don't have a dyno to give you a solid A/F reading it's a trial and error kinda thing like the old school days. Drop a couple jet sizes each time till you get it right but you'll also have to drill out and adjust your A/F screws to fine tune it.

Good luck and enjoy the addiction!!!
