Quickly make front wheel stand for storage

Here is a quick front wheel stand I made for storage of my bike. It is made out a piece of 3/8" plywood as a base and then I used some 2x3's (could use 2x4's) that I had laying around for the supports. Make sure you use some good quality outdoor wood glue between the joints and some decent length screws (I used 2.3" deck screws). I liberally applied some glue to the outside of the joint that I had laying around because it was getting old.

The whole stand took me about 15 minutes to make. It doesn't look like much but it serves it's purpose. It is very stable when the bike is on it. It is a little tricky to put under the front forks but if you lift the bike from the top of the front rim and get a buddy to slide the stand under it works well.

This stand could also be used to remove the front wheel. If this is the intent make sure that there is enough space under the front tire and the base of the stand when it is on the stand so you can get the tire out from under the front fender.

Very cool indeed :-)
I'm guessing by the flat edge that it is strong enough that you can lever the bike onto it normally rather than jacking the bike up and siding it under?

I never tried that but I will have to. That is definitely a good idea.

The same type of stand would work for the rear but instead of putting the v-notches that the forks sit on all you need is a hole on each arm of the stand to stick a rod through the stand and hollow rear axle. I have a simple steel stand that I made that I will post soon. (This of course will only work if you have a hollow rear axle)

This works but has the drawback that you can't remove the wheel.

That is a valid point but it does work well for tightening and waxing the chain and storing the bike for winter.

Same thing but put the rod through the swingarm pivot.

Not sure what you mean Jazzy.
But yes, it supports the bike nearer the centre.
If you were removing both wheels, you'd probably have to remove the rear first to keep it balanced.

Sorry as usual I didn't explain myself very clearly, just when you said to put a rod through the swingarm pivot, I thought...then looked at my swingarm and was just checking. There is a spot just behind that where you could support underneath the swingarm by placing strong piece of timber or covered strip of metal through in a similar fashion.
No that I've written this, the front is a good idea but I think a pre-fab'ed stand is better (easier) for the rear.
Thanks Larry, I'm getting there...honestly, just a little slow sometimes

Is that one of those stands that when in use plays cheesy 70's songs by a Swedish pop group
