| newbie.. Just wanted to say what’s up. I’ve been checking out the board for a few weeks, I have to say this is one of the coolest boards around!
Thanks in advance
So I am looking at picking up a blade, I found three. First is a 03 954 with 1200miles asking $7600obo. No mods and probably not for awhile.
Why it’s all most new.
2.
(This is straight from add.)
A 2001 HONDA CBR 929 RR, 20,000miles This 929 is packed with over $3,000 of all the right equipment. Sato fully adjustable rearsets, full high-mount Arata titanium exhaust, Powercommander PC3r with custom map for this specific exhaust, PVM cast magnesium wheels, Sharkshinz solo rear cowl, Kevlar brake lines (front and rear), Michelin Pilot Sport tires, Hyperpro steering damper and more. Yes, you can buy a 929 for less, but you will never be able to duplicate this bike for the price! The rear wheel stand is not included, but a shop manual is. The bike has always been well maintained, by an adult rider (46), and shop professionals; it has never been raced and never down. The bike is in very good condition. I ran over something days before placing this add, so the new rear tire has less than 200 miles on it (photo show old tire before flat). $6,600.00 OBO.
Why it decked out but probably has some hard miles on it.
3 a good old 99 CBR900RR with 10,000 miles on it for $4700obo
why it’s cheep and in good shape
Money aside what do you guy think?
Of course I want the 954 but with no mod’s in the near future the 929 looks real good.
Also I will be riding mostly street, maybe a track day when I get some leathers. |

| Re: newbie.. The 929 hands down. The price on the 954 is high, and the 929 has all the stuff, with a well broken in engine for a decent price - although you could probably talk him out of another ~$500. |

| Re: newbie.. I would go with the 929 as you shouldn't have to put anymore money into it except gas and tires. That is a very good price. 20k isnt much on these motors if the motor has been left stock. |

| Re: newbie.. Another vote for the 929 here, and welcome to the site! Good mods on the 929, ones you'd want to do anyway. The Arata full system is one of the best ones out there in terms of both hp gains and fit & finish. 20k miles is nothing on a Honda, and it sounds like they were "normal" miles. Doesn't sound like the bike was abused by stunting.
I really like my 929, it has the some of the mods you list and then some others! |

| Re: newbie.. Go with the 929....and I'm even biased (look to the left.) I think you'll find that you will save a ton of $$$ with the 929 especially considering that no matter what you are saying now...eventually you would end up buying at least half of those mods for that stock 954 anyway. You'd better hurry up and snag it if it's not already sold, bikes sell really fast on cycletrader. |

| Re: newbie.. With the full Arata and PCIII with custom mapping, I'd venture to guess that it's putting out approximately the same horsepower as a stock 954. See if he has the dyno graph. If it was custom mapped, he should. Doesn't look like he's done any suspension mods. Your first mod may be to ship your forks off to Dan Kyle.....
The 929 and 954 are very similar in handling characteristics. So close that many of us with 929s saw no reason to upgrade to a 954. I've ridden both. |

You would probably want to fit a pipe, PC3, steering damper and get the forks/shock worked though so factor that in. But you'd probably want to get some suspension work on the 929 too.
BTW to the .org. |

| Re: newbie.. So I talked with the guy, great guy by the way. Bike sounds good to go, the only thing he said he did not like, is that the spark plugs are harder then they should be to change. He had to drop or loosen one of the motor mounts to get to one of the plugs. Anyone know about this being a problem? |

| Re: newbie.. that thing looks awesome. that tail doesn't have an opening to get to the trunk does it? I'd stuggest trying to find an oem tail and seat or targa cover so you can use the storage space. comes in handy on the road. I'm not sure about the spark plug stuff but I wouldn't realy worry about it, how often are they changed anyway?

(like a 2 hour job for 4 freakin plugs) I'm sure he didn't have to, but maybe lowering the motor for a minute just made it easier. Also, if he already changed the plugs.....you'll likely total, or sell the bike before you have to change them again. |

| Re: newbie.. The plugs are a PITA to get to, like most I4s. I haven't done it yet, but you can either lift the tank and airbox and go in from the top. Or, as the manual suggests, pull the radiator forward and access them that way. It says to change them every 8k, but most guys that have done that say they still look fine. I have 10k on mine so far, no problems. I'm actually waiting for 16k and I'll probably have the dealer change them when I take it to them for a valve adjustment (one of the few things I don't want to tackle), unless it starts running poorly before then. |

| Re: newbie.. Bro’s
So I went to check it out today.
He’s throwing in all the old parts and a shop manual+ a Stayintune muffler.
I told him if he can deliver it. So it looks like it's on it's way here.

I'd haggle the 954 down substantially, get him as low as he'll go. 1200 miles, that's a brand new motorcycle. The 929 has some nice stuff on it, but it doesn't come with any suspension goodies. I'd buy the 954, just haggle like hell on the price. |

I'm guessing the 929? It never hurts to hang onto the stock rims, especially if you do track days. |
