It's the European...actually everywhere but the US version of the 900 and now 1000cc Honda sportbikes. It's the same bike, just different name.

Re: newby...have never heard these bikes called fireblades! history??

Not sure about all the history, but the European versions have always been called Fireblades. I think the loose Japanese translation is lightening. Anyway, most European versions have names, like Hornet, Hurricane, etc., whereas the American versions get letters. I think it had something to do with insurance here. If a bike had a "fast" name, the insurance was more. However, all sportbikes are more to insure now anyway, so they might as well give us the cool names!

isn't it also weird that they get different colors than we do? i really like their red white and blue bike. and im sure they would like to have a color scheme only offered in the us. anyway thanks for the input.

"Somewhere in the bike's early development, the name FIREBLADE came along through a misinterpreted translation from French to English for the Japanese word for lightning."

The History of the Honda CBR900RR Fireblade

What I found amazing was the price of a blade in 1995 at £9265

You can get a 2005 Repsol for that money!!!

Re: newby...have never heard these bikes called fireblades! history??

Thankfully in North America they went by the numbers. Can you imagine someone offeing a FireBlade for a seemingly steal only to find out you put out all that time & milage or money to see a '95 CBR900?

So the CBR900 has it in its yrs, the 929 has it from 2000 to '01, the 954 is '02 to '03 & the 1000 is '04 & now into '05.

True in some countires the colours might be a bit different like we had a choice of 3 different colours in '00 & I stuck with Black with a bit of silver as I did not want a bumble-bee or one in purple, red & white.

Ummm... Canada went by European names. We also got more colors than the Americans.
And your first sentance didn't make any sense - who wouldn't ask the year of the bike?
