| New girl looking for some advice! Hiya
I'm new to this site, but it looks like a good site.
I've set my heart on buying a Fireblade in September, when I turn 25, but I dont really know where to start.
I've always been into cars, and just admired bikes, but thought it was time to live the dream and get one!!
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!
Nicky
PS - Anyone else on here from Scotland?? |

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! to Fireblades! Like Conq said, a Fireblade, or any liter-sized bike, is probably too much to handle for a firsttimer.

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! Welcome! Agreed, don't start on a liter bike. Something around 500cc's would be better. Even the current crop of 600cc sportbikes are too much to start on. The guys aren't saying that because you're a women, either. We give the same advice to the guys. Best to start out smaller, get the basics down, and a couple of seasons under your belt before moving up. |

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! Also, is Scotland like some other countries where the size of the bike is limited when you're a new rider? |

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! Agree with posts so far. I suggest getting a smaller less powerful bike that is used ride it one or two years then upgrade. You will be thankful you did. If you think everyone is being paranoid, imagine your first car being a Farrari You would be the envy of friends but it's not a great idea.
Good luck at welcome.

Or, perhaps you have 400cc bikes available? We don't have many here. FZR400, Bandit 400. You get the idea.

I think I'm just an impatient type of person, I just want everything yesterday!!
Re the laws in Scotland, I know its limited if your under 21, but not 100% sure about over 21s. I think if you have a car licence you can go straight to the 500cc test. |

The big bikes can get you into trouble fast. |

Sway, buy something smaller and used first. Cars are nowhere near bikes.
Buy some gear and take a class.

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! If you have someone to help you starting out look for an older SV650 or something of the like it is enough bike to keep you riding for a but yet forgiving enough to allow you to grow into less plastic to trash if you end up downing it as well. |

I agree with every word that Hondagaltoo wrote, and Nillotuc is right on about the SV.
There was a couple of posts recently from a guy named Big G from Aberdeen, you could find him in the members directory.
So take the long term view, start smaller, learn all you can, and when you're ready, there will be plenty of 'blades available.
And almost all of these bikes mentioned are faster than a Ferrari to 60 mph.. |

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! Welcome! Start small. The learning curve is easier and you'll be a better rider for it later on. |

| Re: New girl looking for some advice! I definitely agree that you should find a bike that's a little more forgiving to learn on, and then work your way up as you get more comfortable.
I dream of golfing in Scotland and Ireland. Someday. |
