| New guy in town! Hey guys, just wanted to say hi. I'm actually on my way to getting my first 'almost' liter bike. It will be a 2000 CBR 929rr. It's black/red/silver. Looks gorgeous and I can't stop thinking about her.
Well my biggest question - for anybody who has ridden one - I just wanted to know some handling characteristics, what to watch out for, you know like the new guy tips.
Now I've been driving for 4 years, and riding for 2. So I feel comfortable on a bike. I tend to spend a lot of time going to the demo-rides and riding the liter bikes there.
Also cinsidering the bike is almost stock - only has a yoshi can..what would be some possibly 'necessary' upgrades (like steering dampner, or PC III) that should be installed?
Just wondering, any response is usually a good response - except if its, 'don't get that bike, its too big for you'.
Cheers.

| Re: New guy in town! HEHE Oh boy I've pissed em off already!
I guess I get that idea with all those videos I've watched and its always the 'blades that end up tossing the rider - or even on the track - where they love to go into neck breaking high sides.
Just an observation.
Cheers.

| Re: New guy in town! Hi,
gear is mandatory, damper, sliders, then whatever makes you hapy.
Start slowly, and look where you want to go.
Don't lock the front brakes, nor the rear.
If you take it easy the blade is very cooperative.
practice makes perfect

| Re: New guy in town! A damper is considered a must by most of us. Get good gear first, if you don't already have it, and wear it all the time. If you just have a slip-on exhaust can, the PCIII isn't a must, although it will smooth out the throttle response. After the steering damper, the first thing I'd spend money on is sorting out the suspension.

| Re: New guy in town! Well, just wanted to let you know, I definately feel welcome.
Thanks for the support guys - I just hope the buying works out well.
Yes I can wheelie quite well - I had a GS 500 and SV650s before the Fireblade and could wheelie fine on the GS, and wheelie into 3rd gear on the SV. That is to say as well, I choose my time and place.
I already have all my gear (its been well worked in) - never been down with it though.
The reason for my jump to such a large bike, is the lack of good 'blades at reasonable prices. This one came along, and I love the look of the 929's and 954's - I wish Honda could've kept them running. Actually my first experience on a motorcycle was on a 2002 Honda 954rr in Germany. I remember having so much trouble holding on. That was a definite rush.
Anyways, all the best and keep them coming
Cheers.

Alex. | Damn another one from TO!!
Gook luck with the purchase of the blade. And it's "Damper" not "Dampner" |

Welcome, Alex. It's a great place once you get 'broke-in'. |

| Re: New guy in town! schnitzel! Great choice in bikes... Since you already have good gear, than a damper would be a wise investment. Under the right conditions, the front can wobble on you...usually when you least expect it. If you're looking for a place to spend your money, visit our sponsor Dan Kyle.

Click on the Sponsor Links at the top right to visit our current sponsors. At least compare prices and give them a chance to get your business.

| Re: New guy in town! Heya,
I know I suck at spelling, lol - I just spelt it the way it sounded.
I'll definately take a look at the sponsor pages and see how the pricing is.
What I'm really worried of is having a tank slapper, and I know the 'blades are more prone to this than other bikes because of the power-to-weight ratio.
I heard the 1k RR's ride soo smooth with that 'damper' on them.
Any recommendations for dampers - this is something I have little knowledge about - and would probably need a little help selecting a specific product.
Cheers.

Welcome to the site! | Really? I didn't know that. I only mention him because of my vested interest in his business!
Cal-Sportbike, Ron Ayers, and the others are just as good...

Welcome schnitzel, get a Scotts damper, then there are tons of expensive and in-expensive goodies you can get. Becareful with those wheelies, it's a matter of odds until you eventually flip her over.
Other cheaper ideas to get;
Double Bubble windscreen
Sargent Seat
CRG levers
Sprocket combinations w/recalibrator
goes on and on and on...
Again, welcome to the site! |

| Re: New guy in town! Hey Dave,
Yeah I really like the look of that Scotts Damper. I'm just not sure if I'll be able to afford it this season
So far, bike I'm looking at about 6,800 (CAD$) and insurance to ride for the year is about 2,200 (CAD$). Gotta love that. So at least I'll have the bike.
Considering what I was quoted a year ago (7,000 CAD$) to ride a Fireblade, its not looking so bad.
I really like the look of those double bubble windshields as well - gives it almost a moto GP feel.
As for the wheelies, I'll try keeping them on the 'down-lo', can't promise though that I won't do them.
Cheers.
