| New guy stopping in Hello everyone. I just moved on in my motorcycling from a 2001 Suzuki SV650S to a 2002 Honda CBR954RR. Glad to be on a Honda, as I used to own a Prelude, learned to drive on a Civic Si, and have loved Honda's ever since.
My riding experience includes MSF and about 2k miles on the SV. My experience on the 954 includes 2 hours in the parking lot practicing MSF drills and a 3 mile ride through my neighborhood. I love the damn thing and look forward to many good times.
I bought the bike for $6k, taxes included, with 5400 miles on it. It's going to require a little work to get it looking new, it seems it has been dropped on either side. I'm hope to sell all my plastics and buy new ones, but that is going to take awhile ($$$$).
I got full coverage insurance for $96 a month and I'm 19! That's the only reason I made such a huge jump from the SV; insurance wasn't too much more.
Anywho, I look forward to spending a lot of time on here learning about my bike and chatting with you fine fellow Honda riders. Thanks! |

I pay 1139 a year with a perfect driving record for just about all coverage you can buy (but in MA the rates are state regulated so there isn't an competition among agencies)

| Re: New guy stopping in I'm in Dallas. I also have vehicle insurance with State Farm that has been clear for the past 4 years (my driving career). I'm going to fix up the cosmetics and then buy a damper as my first and only mod, with the exception of the exhaust. I can't wait for it because it seems quite wobbly in various scenarios. It doesn't just rock side to side like the SV did.
And thanks for the warning about the bike. It is extremely powerful and is going to require a lot of practice before I even begin to feel comfortable with it. I know you've probably heard this a million times from a million dumb kids, but I'm actually a really safe driver/rider. In fact, this bike is huge overkill for my style of riding, but I got a good deal on it and a good low-interest loan.
I'm more of a nerdy guy who likes to tinker with stuff and enjoy my riding rather than go show off doing wheelies or flying through traffic. I generally ride alone at night and always in full gear (cept pants; I need to get some).

The only thing I would suggest is - ride more in the daylight hours! Happy and safe riding! |

I loved that thing and it is greatly missed. I just needed something bigger to lug stuff back and forth to college. My prelude had an oem kit, jdm foglights, h&r sports over koni yellows, tanabe g-power exhaust, and a short ram intake. Nothing big, but it was a blast to drive. I'll get pictures when imagestation is being nicer. |

you don't still have the JDM fogs or the Koni's do you
I have not had the money to do much to mine yet...I have put leather seats in(factory ones ) I like them much better than cloth, CAI, I have 1.5-1.75 inch lowering springs to put in but...it may not be until closer to the end of the summer(the bike is out now, so the car does not get much attention)
I just put a custom cat back on it yesterday, it was custom made for the car, picked it up used after one season. It is a brullen, a small company that used to be in toronto, found it on the toronto prelude club(awsome site too ) and thats about it, other than the $20 clear marker lights
plans for the car...find shocks(koni's would work) to go with my springs, clear out my tail lights clear out my front signals and possibly a mugen front bumper and spoiler don't really want to do any engine work or anything like that, not on this car...I love it to death but it is just too small...no room for anything in it, especially with the stereo I have in it( ) I am hoping to get an RSX type S some time, either that or a ridgeline(drool) |

I'd spend it all on suspension if I went back. I'd say keep the oem kit too. Those are probably still worth a lot now since they're getting harder and harder to find?
I miss the Prelude. Anywho, save the money on the cosmetic stuff and buy a nice suspension. You'll appreciate it in the long-run.
Oh, and I sold it in January of 2004. So nothing's really lying around anymore :p
Always good to see a luder!
Here's my bike.

| Re: New guy stopping in You being in texas makes suspension a very nice upgrade, me living in ontario canada makes my car into a snow plow I can't go any lower than 1.5 or 1.75 inches, but I am hoping to get some adjustable shocks eventually
Love the bike my buddy has the same one, fun to ride |

| Re: New guy stopping in Howdy! You might think of damper then frame sliders. The damper for safety and the sliders in the case of a lay down or oops drop it can save a lot of $$$ in avoided plastic damage.

I'm not even riding the bike close to hard right now. It hasn't seen 5k rpm in the past 20 miles since I picked it up. |
