| Hello................Why??? Been following this site for the last 5 months or so and love all the good info on here. I love reading the posts on here everyday compared to any other site I've found. Everyone here seems super mature and experienced when it comes to riding and I hope to one day be there myself.
I bought myself an absolute mint R1 with only 7,000km. I've always been a honda guy (owned 4 various CBR's in last 3 years) but it was too hard to pass up a great deal. I felt the need to make this post/rant because I'm so pissed off right now. Last night some punks pushed my R1 onto its right side for no reason. I'm new to my city (Calgary), have no enemies, had my bike parked on the street (a street my bike has never been on before) for 15 minutes, always ride very cautiously and make sure not to piss anyone off while riding. I hate when **** like this happens and there is nothing you can do about it especially when I give my baby such good attention (always clean, well maintained and sleeps in a garage everynight).
Luckily there is no major damage (ie, cracked parts) but there are some big scratches on my lower fairing, exhaust, handle bar, mirror, signal light and my brake lever was severely bent which made riding today a little weird. This should give me a good excuse to put on some aftermarket parts I guess but I didn't think it would be for this damn reason.
If you guys have made it this far, I have a question? When you start your bikes, do they start the same everytime. I only start my bike in my garage in the mornings and sometime it take .5 seconds to start and others it takes 4-5 seconds or even 2 tries. Once its started it runs like a babe. What should I be checking? The oil is perfect and so is the battery. I'm guessing I should be looking at the spark plugs next but just wanted a second opinion.
Safe Riding
K

| Re: Hello................Why??? Sorry to hear of your horrifying experience. Just believe in karma! Those phucks WILL get theirs, sooner or later. As for the variance in starting times, that is because you now own a yamahahahaaaa instead of a Honda! It's that simple! Seriously, I have no idea, just know that my 954 starts instantly, and the same, every time. |

| Re: Hello................Why??? Sounds like you had the bad fortune of crossing paths with worms. Some people like to destroy and mess with things not thiers (they also seldom have anything of thier own that is nice) Glad the damage was minimal.
The RR starts up instantly, the RC close but takes a bit of choke play to get it right after start, the Ascot is slow starting when cold ambient temp is present.

And you were right on the money with your other comments about jealous people... |

| Re: Hello................Why??? Welcome to Fireblades! Sorry to hear about your bike, but are you sure it was pushed over and not possibly hit by a car? Still sucks either way, but I've seen clueless drivers back into bikes on more than one occasion.
As for the starting, is your R1 fuel injected? The earlier R1's weren't so my guess is it's normal to have some variation in the starting of a carb'ed bike. Typically fuel injected bikes should start the same way every time though...

| Re: Hello................Why??? It was pushed for sure. No cars around it at all and no marks anywhere.
It's fuel injected so that's why I was concerned. I changed to synthetic about two weeks ago and it seems to be helping the starting problem for some reason. Probably just coincidence. |

| Re: Hello................Why??? RR's correct, the first gen R1 was indeed fed by a bank of carbs.
That is the same mill minus some compression and cams which resided in my FZ1. These engines, while strong as hell, are notoriously hard starters in the factory state of tune.
Get yourself a jet kit from Ivan at www.ivansperformanceproducts.com - it's something of an expert's installation as you have to drill the slides and a/f passages in the carb throats, but if you take your time, I promise you, the change your bike will undertake will be nothing short of amazing. |
