| Goodbye....954, Hello 600RR w/pics Well it's official, the 954 is gone. I've been doing some thinking over the past month or so on what I really want in a bike. I want to get into trackdays. Some of you may remember I was trying to get a loan to buy a friends 600RR and didn't get approved. I was bumbed to say the least and figured he'd sell well before I saved up enough to buy it. Over the holiday weekend I met up with him for a ride and he offered a deal. One which I just couldn't say no to. So as of Friday we traded bikes. My 954 for his 600RR. This is my second 600RR and I can say one thing for sure. When I owned my first one my riding skills were not as they are now. Since then I have improved a bunch and have learned so many things. Yesterday after the GP race we went up the mtn for a ride. I had traveled up it on Friday night on a solo run, but I went slow. So for this daytime run I was ready to rip. YEEEE HAAAAW I love 600's. Sure it's got less power then the 954, no storage, and no metal tank to use my magnetic tank bag for, but HOT DAMN it's fast as hell. I forgot how much fun a 600 can be in the twisties. Especailly when you get up in the revs and the sound is bouncing off the canyon/mtn faces and echoing in your head. It was a fantastic ride up and the brand new set of 208's on the 600RR are broken in proper. Except for the left side, I still have left turn issues. So far I am happy as heck with the trade.

Contrary to what Noodles is going to tell you, neither is any "better" than the other. They are just different, and depending on what you want the bike for, or what you like better, one of the two will fill the roll better.
Personally, I think the 954 is a better street bike than the 600.

| Re: Goodbye....954 at first I thought your friend got the better deal but then after reading what the 600 has done to it I'd say you got the better deal. But on the other hand if you're both happy with it neither of you got the better deal, its equal. Congrats
I've only sat on a 600RR and ridden a 954 once and I agree with HD that teh 954 is better for street riding because of its riding position.

| Re: Goodbye....954 Oh, hands down the 954 is a bit easier on the body. For my size and weight the 600 is plenty. The guy I traded with already has a tricked out 1000RR, he wanted a commuter bike and after he put all the money into the 600 realized it was a waste of a good bike for that. So now he's got the 1000 and the 954. He's already ordered a bunch of stuff for it too. The noce thing is the 600 has everything I wanted already done to it. Maybe a few little things here and there but the major mods are done. I would like to get rid of the full Yosh for something a little quieter(far too loud for my likings), and I'll probably changed the gearing back to stock for street use. |

If it's like here in Socal, where awesome roads with tight twisties abound the 600rr is great. If you're looking for a ride around town/commuter the 954 has a less agressive stance.
I just did a 500 mile day (all back road twisties) and a 380 mile day (all slab flying home) going up to MotoGP and back and the 600rr was great.
Speaking for myself, when I'm on my 600RR, I forget I ever had a 954.
You'll be more than happy Reaper! So when's it seeing the track?

| Re: Goodbye....954 I'd like to hit the track soon. I have to attempt to mount the race plastics, find a windscreen that works with them, safety wire what is needed, and get some track tires. Money is a little tight right now so I'm not sure when it will actually happen. |

| Re: Goodbye....954 The bike has a Puig on it right now, from what I'm told the body work is a Sharkskinz copy and they have a cutout at the base of the screen where that little indicator light goes. So the screens for the stock OEM bodywork don't go in far enough. |

It's a bit more work for street riding which I don't mind at all, and overall it's much more fun to ride. |

Personally I just put a piece of tape over it...doesn't bother me. |
