| New Here. wondering about night riding? I just bought my F4i a couple of months ago (2000 miles on since I bought her). I’m not new to bikes just new to sport bikes. I live in LA and like to ride in Topanga canyon at night (it’s even sketchier during the light people ride the yellow line like it was the only line), but have had some sketchy moments. I want to upgrade my lights to something brighter. I’m looking at 100-watt lights. Yes I always run bights on blinky. I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their lights to 100-watt bulbs, if the regulator and wiring can handle it, and if there are 100-watt bulbs available. A friend with a CBR 1100 had upgraded his lights and then blew the lights and d his regulator. He did have 45000 on the bike when this happened though. I plan on tackling Angeles crest and all the fun roads at night soon. I ride the Pace not squirt and break. I rarely even use my breaks on my night rides and keep my speed down. I like speed but am trying to get my form right and become smoother. Any positive feedback is good and if anyone in LA is interested in joining me I usually head out at 8:00 or when I can’t sleep. The sound of a cbr at 2am really gets the blood flowing. Especially when no one is patting his head LOL. Thanks, Ross PS i've seen the projector mods but am not interested in that drastic a mod. hell i still have the stock pipe. about the only mod i am doing is switching to gp shifting. |

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? The only bulbs I have found to actualy put more light on the road (reguardless of how much wattage they burn) are the Philips Vision Plus bulbs. They are stock wattage and alot brighter than any others I have tried. Thats about the best your going to do with the stock setup and wiring. You can put a HID system in there for about $400, or add some aftermarket driving lights such as Piaa's. Check with the sport touring websites as they have the most experience with adding riding lights.

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? As you probably know most sport bikes are crappy for riding at night. Mainly because the headlight does not move with the fork. You could get some fork mounted lights and that would help with illumination a great deal. |

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? thats true about the headlights not flowing with the bike. My old yamaha had one hell of a headlight (100 watt zenon) that followed with the road. I do find it hard to look through the curve when the light is not thier. The roads i do travel, like stunt i know well and keep my MPH at 30 or 40 when at day i ride at 50 or so........... It's just More peacefull when i own it. I almost ate a GSxR something when the rider came in to hot down the last sweeper (or main sweeper to the fun). I kept my line and luckly he made it out of the dirt barley missing me.
Gonna ride some pocket bikes here soon it's going be a blast i'm sure www.scminigp.com.

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? Like G-Force said, get the vision + bulbs for your head lights, and avoid the 100W ones, I ran them and ended up having to replace my upper wiring harness. I cant prove that the 100 watt'rs did it, but Im sure that they didnt help. If you want driving lights, you should be ok to hook some up. A buddy of mine has some on his VFR that are mounted to the mirrors and pointed out and up, so that when in the twisties, he has alot of light on the road and on the shoulders of the road. Just wire them to the battery with a fused link and an on off button where you can kill them in an instant so that when you meet a car, you dont scorch their retnas.... His setup leaves the mounts on the mirrors, and the lights come off and disconnect on the bulb side of the switch so that it stays on the bike.

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? Cool. I'll have to find out what the electrical sys can handle then put a nice beam on the fender. I do understand E=IxR kinda live by it. Do you know what the out put of the regulator is? i don't have a manual as of yet.
Hell it's a honda didn't figure i needed one. Uh cct. LOL |

| Re: New Here. wondering about night riding? I do quite a bit of night riding myself. (forced by my job) Not that Im sponsoring them, but I have a Sylvaia SilverStar in the center light and Blue Ion's on each side. Much brighter than stock. Riding on an already familiar road helps keep the "surprise corners" away. Just watch out for the animals. Ride safe! |
