Ok, I'll ask ..... So what do you concider a normal ride?(please include speed(above or below posted), distance and type of road ie.twisties/straights)?
I own a sportbike to ride a sportbike, if I want to cruise I'll buy a Harley.

I ride it because it's great for sport-touring until I'm ready to move up to an ST1300. |

Let me state that again....... I ride fast on the street. Do I stay within the law? I'll never tell. | I prefer to ride the winding mountain roads. Do I occasionally speed, yes. Do I go at a track pace, NEVER the road is so much more unpredictable that to do so would be unwise. There is gravel at random, cars that enter your lane, animals and lower visibility. Not to mention that the track has corner workers and medical care on hand to aid my safety.
Distance usually 200+ in a day with 4-600 being normal. I have ridden 1200 in a day+ on the 1000RR.
Also I like to ride the Ascot to hiiking trails and ride back to the head then hike to waterfalls (Ascot does nicely on dirt roads) 500 miles is kind of the limit on it though.
It is not that I am perfect Ironman929, rather I do not encourage others to speed and highly discourage anyone to go at or near track pace on a public road.

| Re: What is a newb? [quote=Ironman929]HAHA, actually I've been riding bikes longer than you've been on this planet . I'm no n00b, I've done track time, but most of my racing is on the street. Not straight line stuff, corners and lots of them. quote] Maybe to bring a little sanity back to the post ...
Ironman, based on your later posts, is it safe to assume when you said "racing", you were only referring to "spirited riding"? You did mention not passing those you were riding with, and the mileage listed sounds like you do tour also.
Please note that this is a sensitive subject on the list, and we have had recent visits by the very squidly, who had no sense of responsibility. We have also lost a few to unfortunate incidents.
This is a quality site, with many quality people who do like to enjoy our rides, and maintain some semblance of responsibility. If that describes you, then we'd like to have you and gain from your experience
So, maybe maybe things got off on the wrong foot, and maybe we can all settle down and and just |

If I received a reception like that for what might just be an inappropriate choice of words, I'd be thinking "what a close minded group, and how quick to condemn" ... and then be off looking for some cool people to hang with.
That is contrary to the view I have of the people here, based on reading and meeting some. How is a new guy supposed to know?
OK, off my box. |

But I took his statement as that after riding on the track, he rides faster on the street, and therefore the track was a bad thing because it encouraged him to go faster. I've had conversations with several people who have made this comment. I've also talked to several who use the word "race" for their street riding, and not be able to keep up with a conservative VFR group. I guess I like to be a little slow in pulling the trigger.
I'll be quiet now |

| Re: What is a newb? Riding on the track made me ride slower (or at least with much more in reserve) on the street. I keep looking at ditches, phone poles, fences, etc. and thinking "Man, there is zero runoff in that corner!"

| Re: What is a newb? I won't ride a sportbike on the street after being on the track for so long.
That and cockwallets that ride harder on the streets than they are capable of on the track screwing the public's and law enforcement's perception of riders. |

Those skid marks look like you locked up the brakes pretty good before hitting which means you were riding WAY too fast and way above the conditions.
Sheep (and almost everyone on here) could teach you one very important lesson of street riding, ride slow enough where you have enough time to react and avoid potential dangers that might arise.
Next time you might not be so lucky. Keep the speeds down and stick around on this planet. I'm sure there are people who will appreciate you still be here.
