new guy with engine ?

first hello everyone!
im a member of 4 other sportbike sites but this is my first specific make site.
ive had an fzr600 (20,000miles,sold it) a zx7r ninja(32000,ran over pedestrian)and a gsxr750(10000sold it).now i have a 95 900rr,i bought on ebay and drove 8 hrs to p/u only to find the guy JB welded the block and forgot to mention it.Anyway i need a motor, does any one know what is interchangeable for this?can i use a 929 or 954 block? or what is the best year for HP in a 900? does anyone know a website i can get a "hopped up" motor?ive swapped motors before on the ninja and had one built for it(but hes out of bussiness).

any help would be great,i just want to make the right choice.

Re: new guy with engine ?

a 900 with a 929 motor just sold on ebay recently

you can put in 929/954 motors, even a 1000rr motor if you want, its just getting the points mounted up, 929 motors can be had ill cheap, so can 954, i would honestly get one put in if i were you overa 900rr, or just sell the bike with a replaced motor and get a 929. if you want some more info hit me in pms, all you are gonna get talking about this on here is flack.

Re: new guy with engine ?

I'm sorry to hear about the raw deal.

Is the crack or break in a position in which a good machinist can place a good weld? It might be an option there.

As for the best 900RR motor - go with something between 1996 and 1999. These have the 919cc and are strong. The 929 and 954 have the same blocks if I remember correctly.

Which ever motor you go with make sure to get all the wiring harness, connectors, and the guage cluster. Otherwise you will be in a worse position than you are now.

Put the bike on e-bay with a truthful description. It's easier sometimes to take a small loss than to go through all you're going to in order to get this bike on the road. There are a lot of people looking for parts for the older bikes.

Wow!! I'd like to see that.

I'm not saying that it can't be done but it would take some very interesting fabrication. (RE: 929/954 motors in a 900)

Re: new guy with engine ?

ive heard the 929/954 problem something about not fitting,
ive already had it welded on saturday but the metal had so much oil in it it still leaks a little and the staor wheel took alot of damage.ive got alot of experience swapping motors and fabricating cars.
if i find a 929/954 cheap enough ill grab it but being injected and the other unknown issues ill look for the 96 and up 919 as the bike isnt worth going full custom with.i only paid 1400 for the bike plus the 16 hr trip.i still need clip ons and rear plastics and a windscreen.oh and tires.
thanks alot guys.
