| New 03 CBR 954 owner.... whats up?? Just bought me an 03 CBR 954. Here are its mods:
Full akrapovic exhaust with carbon fiber canister
carbon fiber air dam covers
blue headlights
carbon fiber look mirrors
silver slash pegs in front
gold pegs in rear
carbon fiber gas cap cover
rear seat cowl
dynojet power commander III
chrome frame sliders
k&n filter
michelin pilot power tires front and rear
polished engine covers and swingarm
zero gravity double bubble smoked windecreen
Scotts steering dampner (gold)
custom black paint job
After owning a '74 Honda CB550, '82 Suzuki GS1100, and a '94 Honda CBR900 RR, this bike is just incredible. The first day I rode it, the sissy lines are gone off both tires on both sides, and the handling is just amazing. I do have to also give these tires some props. When I test rode the bike it was raining out and I didnt even really notice much of a difference in straight line traction.
The engine power is also very surprising. I've never been one to do a "clutch" wheelie, I need to power the bike up on its own or I wont do it. This bike will ride right up in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with me sitting on the seat. The midrange power is almost V-Twin like. Its stock geared too. I checked vs my buddys stock 02 954 with both teeth and highway speedo/rpm. I had the chance to ride my buddys 04 R1 and the thing feels dead compared to the snap and throttle response from my bike.
I had to play with the steering dampener and the power commander a little right when I started riding it, dialed out a little bar shake when the tire was just hanging on to the pavement (3rd and 4th especially), and leaned out the midrange and high RPM a little from the map. Other than that, the bike is absolutely great.
My only "issue" is that the bike is pretty terrible on gas. I've run 5 tanks through it and I'm averaging around 26 miles per gallon. My WRX gets 24 and thats a car! Is this normal for having a PC and a full exhaust, or do I need to keep tuning??
This site seems like a great resource to double R owners, I look forward to contributing....

| Re: New 03 CBR 954 owner.... whats up?? Ok, so all you guys have liter bikes to go the speed limit or under, keep it on 2 wheels at all times, and ride at the back of the harley groups that go on sunday runs. Maybe go to the track once in a while and make some turns. But never on the stret. Now I understand.
I guess I own my bike for way different reasons than you guys. Thats all.

| Re: New 03 CBR 954 owner.... whats up?? You need to get a clue... Who said anything about "always going the speed limit"? You're the ****tard doing ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY on a public road.
Hopefully you will only take yourself out with your stupidty on the streets, and not any innocent bystanders... |

| Re: New 03 CBR 954 owner.... whats up?? I'm not trying to screw anything up. Just honestly didnt realize you guys are like this. I think its pretty good, limits the site to mainly useful information, tech info, how to articles, and legit get togethers, rather than arguments about stupid crap, bragging, or trouble with the law. Like I said, I guess I didnt read up enough before I posted and I didnt realize the site was in this format.
Although I choose to ride/drive dangerously for my own personal enjoyment, I do so with the usmost care and caution for others before myself. I know that probably doesnt mean much to someone who's totally opposed to the idea but thats all I can say about that. I do drag race and autocross regularly at the track as well.
I'm not stupid, do all my own mods/work, bulid motorcycle engines, have great skill and knowledge of engine tuning/setup, and build race cars on the side at my own shop. I ride, drive, and race very well, and drive not only my own but some other race cars at the track. All that being said, take it as you wish. Going fast is enjoyable, not scary for me. This why I have a 954 and not a 250. |

| Re: New 03 CBR 954 owner.... whats up?? Congrats on the 954. IMO, it is one of the most underappreciated bikes in recent memory. I think it has the best combination of power, handling, brakes, suspension, wind protection and ergonomic comfort of just about any bike out there. You can even get 45 mpg if you ride 'er easy. If the current lineup of Literbikes is considered overkill for the street, I think the 954 w/ full exhaust is just about right.
I agree with your comment on the midrange power being like a v-twin. I can run mine down to 1500 rpm in 6th, (full Micron & pc) and it pulls smoothly and cleanly. As a matter of fact, It pulls stronger than the (v-twin) Superhawk I just bought!
