| Newb from North Carolina USA Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 30 years old, from North Carolina, USA. I took the MSF course 2 months ago. Two weeks ago I picked up a 2004 Yellow Honda 599 (cb600f, hornet) with 2003 miles on it. It's my very first motorcycle ever. No previous dirtbike experience etc. My MSF course was the first time I had ever sat on a motorcycle of any kind. Spent a month debating on a Ninja 250, or Honda 599. Decided on the 599 after talking with everyone at the Hornets Nest in the UK, and Honda599.com here in the States. Seems to me the 599 is a great first bike, albeit I have no experience to really gauge by. It has nice smooth throttle response, but can get nasty when you hit the powerband above 7500 rpms.
Anyway, I love reading here at fireblades.org, so I thought I'd join. I've only had my bike two weeks and managed to pick up two nails today. So, I ended up pulling the stock Pilot Roads off, and put on a set of Pilot Powers. They are GREAT! I've road all day today after getting them put on, and there's only about 2cm (.75 inches) of chicken strip left to scrub in. The tires just perform beautifully, but again, I don't really have any experience to compare it to. I just know they feel good to me.
Anyway, my name is Chris. You guys have a great site here. Sorry I'm not on a liter bike like alot of you guys. But, its great to be here. I've learned a tremendous amount from reading through this site the past couple of months.

Don't feel like you have to have a "Big Bike" to be on the IN here. http://www.fireblades.org/forums/gen...iterbikes.html |

I spent a long time agaonizing over whether to get a 250 or the Honda 599. It had nothing to do with wanting to be on a "cool looking" bike...let's face it, naked bikes are NOT cool in the US. ALthough, I find my 599 to be beautiful.
There was a pretty steep learning curve, and I'm not so sure I might not would have been better to start on a 250. But I think things are working out very well. I'm very cautious, do not get throttle happy, and wear FULL GEAR, ALL THE TIME.
Besides, I'm on 5'9"...with SHORT legs. So, anything bigger than my 599 would just not be comfortable to me. My 599 fits me like a glove.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm really excited to be able to be here. |

| Re: Newb from North Carolina USA Don't apologize for not being on a literbike. Being a new rider, you've made a wise decision getting the Hornet. If you'd have gotten a literbike, we'd all be telling you to sell it and start on something smaller! |

| Re: Newb from North Carolina USA Yep good call on starting with something smaller. Especially since you have no previous experience. It was a wise choice not too many people make. |

Judging from your avatar, I'm assuming you're an EMP? Yes? |
