| New VFR member Hi folks.
I came up with a Replica "Bubba Shobert" 86 VFR Interceptor by chance really.
I did not even know it until I saw it in the day light the next day after picking it up the night before.just thought it was going to be another parts bike.I rebuild V4 magna's and interceptors as a hobbie.
There is quite a difference in the Replica and the reg. 86 gear drivin VFR.
I"m finding this out while I'm looking for parts to put this thing back to the way it rolled out of the dealer ship. While lookintg for web sites I came across you folks. While there is alot of differences in the two 86 VFR's there simulars too.
So my quest for parts goes on.....

| Re: New VFR member have you been to the VFRWorld.com? use to have an 86, loved the bike. just that it would have taken too much (money and work) to redo the frontend to really track the bike. |

| Re: New VFR member I agree on the money that your talking about. I change the front end to a CBR 600 86-88 front end. It lets me put a 17inch wheel on the front. The CBR rear wheel slides right in to the back. This allows for a bigger and better tires. The rims off the CBR are the race replicas from the Shobert race bike and are the 6 spoke wheels.
I wont be taking to the track there will be to much money in her. Just want to put it back the way she was and ride her from time to time.
You may just say it's a act of love for these bikes...............

| Re: New VFR member I hear you on the act of love, Kurt! I have some fond memories of that era VFR. I may pick one up as a hobby bike myself. Good info on how to upgrade them, thanks!
I am not familiar with that edition, I would love to see some pics of your bike if you can post some.

| Re: New VFR member You can do a search on Bubba Shobert and it will take you to all the info on his bike that he raced.
Honda before the could race the 86 VFR had to build 500 bike to put on the road befor they could race them. They did not use all the bikes at the track so they put street plastic's on them and sold them threw the dealer and dub them the Shobert replica's. The gages, frame, and motor are lighter. The motor has the race cam and valve set up.
I'll get some pic's up soon. I'm thinking about seting up a web page as I rebiuld the bike in stages.
Don't get me wrong ,I'm not a expert on this bike. I did a search on the VFR and read everything I could. I'm just a old school guy and like the older bikes........I guess thats because I grew up with them.

| Re: New VFR member Old school guy here too, I love the 86 VFR. I am a fool for letting it go, but at the time, I had no garage or place to work on the bike! I hope that after I get the blade track ready, I can pick up another 86 VFR750. This site is pretty good VFR700F FAQs
Was at Laguna Seca when Bubba was taken out of racing for good at the end of the GP 500 race. |

| Re: New VFR member What information do you have about a Shobert replica, I've never heard of them before. Shobert raced a production-based superbike VFR750, which the VFR750F was the homologation bike for, same as the GSXR750 for Suzuki and the FZ750 for Yamaha. I've seen Shobert's racebike in person in Ohio, and it's a modified stock frame. The bike has the full catalog of HRC parts on it though, and even used regular handlebars instead of clipons. Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum: 1986 Honda VFR750
I've owned two 1986 VFR750's, one of which I bought new back in 1987. The other one I bought after I sold the first one (and realizing what a mistake I made by selling it). Mine is not exactly stock anymore, I've got an F3 rear wheel, F3 forks, Penske shock, TTS/JE 837cc pistons, etc etc
I'd love to see pics of your bike, and whatever information you have about Honda making a Shobert replica. Pic of mine below:

| Re: New VFR member Evl Twn,
Your bike is what mine is going to look like. You have the 6 spoke replica wheels that I have . I also have the f4 front end on mine and the rear wheel in the back. The Shobert replica has the three piece gage set up on it in stead of the one piece with all the gages mounted in it. Thats how it got dub the Shobert replica in the vintage classic circle. All the VFR750's are collector bikes. The Shobert replica is even more wanted in these circles.
To bad this board does not have a image that we can post pic's.
Your right about the HRC race parts, I dont think that none of us will ever get a chance to pick those kinds of parts up. The Shobert dub bike just has a couple of things on it that where on the race bike, thats how it got the name....it least from what I understand. I'll have to get the date on the Mag. that had the artical in it so you folks can read up on it.
What supprises me is that these bikes are coming out of the wood work around here. The bigger supprise is that know one knows what they have.
The good thing is that it does not matter which edtion you have in the VFR750f 86 it still brings good money when you sell.

| Re: New VFR member I think someone is pulling your chain about the 1986 VFR750F "Shobert Replica". There were some model variations between 1986 and 1987, and there were several separate models:
1986 VFR750F
1986 VFR700F
1986 VFR700FII
1987 VFR700F (no 750 in 1987 for the US)
The standard paint for the 1986 VFR750F was red/white/blue, just like mine. They also all had round gauges. The 1986 VFR700F was similar, except the difference in displacement, and they did not have the "750" on the lower fairing like the VFR750F did. Sometime mid-year they switched to the VFR700FII, which had the more automotive-style (dashboard) gauges. As far as I know, none of the VFR750's had the dashboard, only the 700's.
There was a very limited run of the all pearl white VFR700 in 1986. The following model year, the VFR700 was available in the same pearl white, or in a blue and silver paint option.
The 1986 VFR750 that Shobert raced was actually raced by Wayne Rainey in 1986. As far as I know, there was no "Shobert Replica" in 1986, as he didn't even ride the '86 VFR750 until the 1988 season. I would be VERY interested if you can find any hard facts about the replica bike though. |

| Re: New VFR member Evl twn,
I think your facts are more solid than mine at this point in time. I'm still researching every thing I can find and why they call it the replica.
There's a classic honda club here in town. When I showed them the bike they all said it was a replica. I think what there saying is that it looks like the bike that Shobert and Fred raced. The link you put up here is where I started the search. One of the classic folks is digging up some Mag. and right ups on the VFR750f for us. As soon as I get them I'll put it up.
Like you I want Hard facts myself, it's the reason I came here.
