Up late, saying hi

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie, I'm a new rider, and if all goes well, I'll be getting my first bike at the end of the month. Right now I have two people that want to sell me their bikes - VERY different bikes. I'm leaning towards the bigger one because I have known that person longer, he is a good friend, and the bike is still under warranty. But the smaller bike is more beginner-friendly, and I would be riding with her somewhat regularly.

My main debate with myself is: do I take what I believe is the better bike (03 CBR 1100XX) or the "beginner" bike (02 Katana 600) from the person I know less well? Of course the Katana is cheaper, but not by much. Like I said, I know the other owner very well.

I'm open to advice that I may or may not take.

Skip both and keep looking. the katana is a lump of **** (really it is an air cooled lump of **** not worth the cool name). Get an Sv650. the 1krr is a great bike but really not the best option for a newrider. Most new riders drop thier bike. simple things like forgetting to lay the kickstand down, fist full of throttle on takeoff, and pure panic. it is very expensive to fix a 1krrs plastics nothing on the sv to really break.

Welcome ..and on what he said. You will get a LOT of fun out of that SV, especially if you get a nice used one. There will always be someone to take it off your hands, you will get your money back when you do decide to upgrade and if something goes wrong it is a basic bike to learn spannering on.

Re: Up late, saying hi

Thank you both - another friend suggested the SV650 too, but I haven't ridden one yet. I will check it out. I can definitely see the panic factor on the 1k - but it's a beeeeeyutiful bike (custom paint, meticulously kept). I would definitely hate to drop that, never mind paying for the repairs. I'll keep my eyes open.
