| Hello - and Help...! Having been unconvinced by superbikes as day-to-day transport, I just happened to be passing a dealer on my Hornet 600 that had a 954 outside. An hour later it was in my garage...
it was a littlle impulsive, £4k seemed cheap - its got 10k on the clock and smacked of having money spent on it as it has some nice bits: Arrows 1/2 system, PCIII, MIG rearsets, Sprint damper etc etc, so I took the plunge.
Now using it to commute into London every day it's a nightmare. I have open the throttle very gingerly to stop it stalling until it hits 3,000 revs and then it's off like a rocket.
I've trawled the threads and it looks like it could be anything including:- A duff PC
- Dirty injectors (is that a big deal to fix? I'm mechanically inept)
- The wrong map. I've tried tweaking the mixture manually but to be honest I don't even know if it’s too rich or too lean that's causing the stalling as it runs great from 3,000 upwards.
- There is sometimes a mechanical clunk, like a quiet version of slipping into first gear and when his happens, the revs stutter. Could something be sticking?
- Just one on those things. Losing the HTEV means it’s really fluffy low down, which is fine apart from the stalling.
Other questions I have:- can anyone recommend a decent rolling road and servicing in Surrey? I'm happy to pay for decent service but just don’t like being ripped off. I plan to put a road legal can on so presume its best to wait and do that before getting the fueling changed?
- If I gear it down, does it affect the speedo reading?
- As an interim, I want to increase the idle but can't find the adjuster anywhere, I thought it was on the left but can't see it, Can anyone help?
Any thoughts or help would be really appreciated as it's a bit dangerous and more importantly, humiliating to crawl away from the lights behind scooters.
Thanks a million in advance for any comments. |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! Well i am having a little suspension trouble out of mine i think. But with you, i would wait to remap the PC until you have added the new pipe. If you take a tooth off of the front, you will see a quicker speed reading, which will be wrong. You will actually be going slower than the speedo reads, and you will rack up miles quicker. I am not sure where the idle is, i will get back with you on that one. I havent had to fiddle with mine. But congrats on the purchase and welcome to the site. |

Thanks a million in advance for any comments. | If you think the PC may be dead.. unhook it and see how it rides.
Fuel injectors, easiest is to start with a GOOD cleaner. not the $2 bottle that you see in the gas station.
Like the other said if you gear it down the speedo will be off
I have no clue where your idle is (sorry) |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! the idle adjuster is on the l h s behind the fairing, if you look just above your front sprocket it is located near the two hoses behind the fairing bracket. |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! thanks guys, idle adjusted - any hints on fixing the stuttering/low down fluffiness, much appreciated.
I've also managed to strip one of the engine mounting bolts. has anyone managed to retap or fit a helicoil without dropping the engine? |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! No problem. Good luck. There are some pretty good rides around there as well. Try the Long Furlong ride from the A24 to the A27, its a blast and the view is superb. |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! didn't get there, I found a stripped engine mount and couldn't get it fixed in time so couldnt redline it. Will try and go down w/e 21-22.
I've tweaked the map myself and it's fuelling fine now bar the possible vacuum leak. Do you know if a dyno would highlight that?
thanks as ever |

| Re: Hello - and Help...! Sorry to hear you had a couple of extra problems. In answer to your question I don't believe a dyno would highlight a vacuum leak, although this may manifest itself as reduced HP. |
