| RC51 rider from Tennessee Here goes another "first post" intro... I'm 36 and started riding in the dirt on an RM 80 sometime around 1980. I progressed to a newer KX 80 in what would have been around 1984- that was a real bike in those days with the advent of water cooling and a disc brake. My street days actually started on a DR200 that I rode when the cops weren't looking trying to lean over like I had seen the GP guys do, which was a scary proposition on a worn out knobby tire, nothing like the motard guys of today. My first street bike was a 1984 FJ600-sporty at the time but with a seat like a couch!! I went back to the dirt for a while when I discovered the Quadracer 250: 2 strokes still rule in my book, in fact I drove all the way to Kansas to buy a pristine example of the racer that I had in the '80s a couple years ago. When spring rolled around again, I traded my bike and quad for a 1987 FZ 600, just in time to get slaughtered by the then new Hurricanes. For the past few years I have ridden a Harley cruiser, that is until I had the chance to take my buddies RC51 for a spin. I bought one about three weeks later! I didn't realize what I had been missing!! So here I am- and I just got back from a 3 day weekend at Road Atlanta for the Suzuki Showdown. What a weekend!! I met Kevin Schwantz, Roger Lee Hayden and Josh Herrin and got some cool pics and autographs. I also got to talk to Jamie James for quite a while while he coached an up and coming USGPRU rider. If you have never been, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST GO TO A RACE WEEKEND. Well worth everything that I spent. Looking forward to next year and the GP at Indy... |
