| newbie CBR9 in Ga hey folks,
i just recently bought my first "fireblade" - an '02 cbr954rr & i love it so far.
i've been lusting after a liter bike for some time now.
i have owned honda's all my life (almost literally). my 1st was a QA-50 when i was in the 3rd grade and have owned a CL125, CB400T Hawk, VFR 700 & for the past 10 years a '95 VFR750. see pics
got a couple of questions: bike came with techlusion TFI. i have heard mixed to negative things about this fuel modifier, but so far it seems to be working fine on my bike ( no misfires, or engine bogging nor anything but seemingly smooth response thruout rpm range). does anyone on here have this on their bike?
other question: bike has >21,000 miles on it & i want to do the oil change on it. previous owner said he used synthetic oil. i'm thinking of going with a 10w40 semi or full synthetic. what are other cbr9 owners using and/or prefer?
ohhh one more thing, previous owner installed a nice micron slip on, but broke the muffler clamp/strap (the one which attaches to passenger footpeg) & used a friggn nylon strap on there. anyone have a used one or know where i can get for a reasonable price? micron wants $50 plus shipping for another one!! talk about markup!
thanks & looking forward to learning more about my latest baby |

| Re: newbie CBR9 in Ga Kahlilj. Nice looking bikes. Re oil question, I would strongly recommend you use the search function. There have been so many questions about oil and so many differing opinions that you won't get a definitive answer. But you'll get a guide line idea.
Some suggest that 'real' synthetic oil will cause the clutch to slip, others say they use it all the time and haven't experienced any slip issues - I use a 10w40 synthetic and I haven't had any slip.
I would suggest you follow your user manual for the weighting of oil and then experiment with different manufacturers.
Good luck |

thanks! |

| Re: newbie CBR9 in Ga for a whole bunch of different reasons, it got parked in the garage for a long time without being properly stored.. the tank and carbs need to be cleaned, and it looks like I'll have to rebuild both master cylinders..
if it looks like there is too much for me to do, i might take it to marietta motorsports (saw them mentioned in another thread).. either way, i'm planning to have it on the road when it thaws out in the spring time..
we moved up here from Orlando about a year ago, and some of the roads around here have been tempting me, so I figured it's time to get the bike out of jail and start exploring... |

The roads in my post above make a great loop. I prefer to ride into Suches on hwy 60 (Stopping at T.W.O.) and then continuing on to Morganton (sp?). |
