hey all

Hey everyone, ive been lurking the forum for few weeks and figured it was time to say hi. I am going to look at a 2002 954 this coming weekend. I will be a first time owner but not first time rider. I have ridden many bikes such as, an F4, F4i, R6(drag bike), a street driven R6, a GSXR600, and I have put a couple hundred miles on a kawasaki zzr600, and a couple others that either i cant remember or arent worth mentioning. The drag bike R6 was a friend of mines that weighed 80lbs more than I so he told me to ride it one day at the track for him, and I ran a much better time than he did so I raced it quite frequently from that point on. By drag bike i mean lowered with quite a bit engine work, not sure exactly what. First pass I ever made on it was a 7.3 @107mph tripping the 60' on the rear tire(1/8 mile). The bike i am going to look at this weekend is a 2002 CBR 954RR with 2600miles. The guy is my good freinds cousin. He is willing to let it go for $4000. Is there anything paticular with these bikes that I should look out for? This deal sounds to good to be true. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated The majority of the bikes I've ridden have been lowered, from what I've read this makes a bike handle like dog poo, so I am rather anxios to own a bike that sits at stock height and find out what a bike really handles like. A little bit about me, I still consider myself a newb to riding and the fun that can be had. I am a Ford Technician by trade. Ive had a few mustangs a various years, and now drive a slightly modded 03 Mercury Marauder. I look forward to learning from you all!

Re: hey all

Welcome to Fireblades, I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback on the 954 here, you might like to post specific questions in the "Fireblade" section just to be sure people see them. Not everyone reads the intorductions. All the best and welcome to the club.

Re: hey all

Red, look at all the normal things like, Forks, engine cover, leaks, of course try and take it for a few mile spin too, that will tell a thing or two. Look for scratches on the bar ends, swingarms and mirrors, as well as the engine covers mentioned above. Always good idea to run the VIN too.

Re: hey all

Thanks for the welcome guys! I appreciate the responses, just wanted to make sure there wasnt anything bike specific that was a deal maker or breaker with these bikes.
