I'm new and I can't send a PM - Why?

This is a setting we have in our system to reduce "spam messages" being sent to members by people who sign up thinking they are going to make a killing selling ipods & Nike shoes to forum members. Nobody likes it so we have a "cooling off" period for new members just to be on the safe side.

I am unable to reply to the for sale forms.. is there a reason for this.. I thought it was just one person, but it seems to be all

Re: I'm new and I can't send a PM - Why?

it doesn't seem that questions are answered in this thread but I'll ask anyway...
What is the cooling off period... time? How long? Post count? How many? Does the cooling off period apply to p.m., avatar, classified, signature? Thanks in advance

What is the cooling off period... time? 14 days

How long? Post count? How many? Just 14 days, not based on post count or anything else

Does the cooling off period apply to p.m., avatar, classified, signature? Just PM's........... Avatars and sigs are perks for supporting members

Thanks in advance No problem

Re: I'm new and I can't send a PM - Why?

I got a "you hurt my internet feelings" message in my UCP area. What is that about? I'm still trying to figure out if donating my hard earned finances to the site is something I want to do. Kinda on the test ride here lately so to speak... But this worries me.

This is the thread and you can see my post near the bottom,

01 hayabusa backfires when cold

and this is the note in the UCP area,

01 hayabusa backfires...07-28-2009 8:34 PMnot appropriate, if you cannot help each other on this form keep your thoughts to self.

WOW!! Is this pretty typical of how this site is ran?? I'm under the impression that the internet is for entertainment. The best way from keeping your "internet feelings" safe is to keep them off the web!! I though this site was a place for members to communicate, help each other, hassle each other, poke some fun, learn this and share that, etc.

Please let me know about this. Thanks in advance.

I too cannot see what this has to do with this poor guys post????
But just as important....

On noticing the RED outline I've done, does this mean that the site STAFF can and are reading our PM's???Even if in this case the wrong PM was sent to the wrong person, If so surely that goes against what is implied in its meaning of PRIVATE Message???

Hmm. I haven't got the ability to read members PM's, as far as I know they are all private unless the Admins have access (I honestly don't know)

Re: I'm new and I can't send a PM - Why?

I think the PM refers to the time... 8:34 PM - if you look at the grey bar at the top of each post the time is there in this format.

Doesn't explain the message received by 63hardtop though.....

Mmmmhhh...interesting.....very interesting. I guess we would need to know and ask the Mod that sent the PM to 63hardtop.
Maybe something you could look into Twin ???
