Bought a 929 today, greetings all!

Decided to upgrade to something that can take the Colorado corners a little better. I was riding a 99 ZRX1100, nice torque but so heavy. Anyway love my new bike it is a 2001 with 15K, just dealer serviced, Akrapovic slip on,I love the fact that you can ride it like a granny at lower rpm and let it rip at higher. I have a couple of questions for you knowledgeable people, what's with the wobbly idle? And the rear end that seems to bounce of the road on bumps? Mind you everything else about is quite fantastic, and to think I nearly bought a Hayabusa...

The idle is probably due to the slip on. A powercommander with a map for the akrapovik exhaust should cure that.

I actually still had the wobbly idle with my new full exhaust and a map for it. I hooked up the powercommander to the computer while the bike was running and just adjusted the 1000 rpm mainly and also the 500 and 1500rpm settings for 0 throttle input. It was pretty cool. My idle is quite stable now.

If the rear end is bouncing after bumps, you'd want to decrease the rebound speed on the rear shock.

Thaks for your reply! The rear shock is set 4 clicks up from the longest/ lowest setting so I should go longer or shorter?

curt means increase the rebound damping (lower screw clockwise).

you're taking about the preload.

but, i wouldn't mess with anything yet. first learn how to set your static sag. (do a search here).

then see how it feels. if it's still not right, got to the sport rider site and set your suspension for the recommended settings.

you could also come back and describe what you mean bounce off the road. this could be too much preload; too much compression damping; or too little rebound.

start with sag.

I will check on that today thank you. The actual problem I had was hitting a bump at around 60 in a straight line, the rear wheel didn't stay planted but bounced up from the road surface and turned part of a rotation off the surface before coming back down with a slight squeal. What I'm getting is that you all think the suspension components are decent and need better adjustment rather than upgrade which is good.

You need to set sag first to determine if the spring is too heavy for your weight. Then I would look at adjusting the compression first. Then finally rebound.
