'nother Texan with an '07 1000rr

Hello fireblades.org. Thanks for having a good forum to lurk on.

I was looking to buy a 600-ish of some kind, was particularly interested in a twin, especially some of the Ducs. As fate would have it, a deal fell into my lap for a 07 1000rr with 8k miles that was dropped at low speed. Hmm I think I'll be quite happy without a twin! Lust took over from there and it's in my garage waiting for some bits and pieces. It's fine mechanically. The damaged bits are the stator cover, the cowl is cracked, and it needs a new upper and lower fairing on the left side.

Test rode it for about an hour in some twisty roads and loved it. My second ride on it was the ride home on some more twisty stuff, it was even better the second time.

I'm not ready for all the power of it, so I have been and will continue to be a wuss with the throttle. One I've gotten a little more acquainted with it I'll sign up for a beginner track day (on a liter bike I know...it's ridiculous )

I pretty much have my gear sorted. Teknik Chicane two-piece leathers, Joe Rocket boots and some alpinestars gloves. Should do fine for the backroads, and maybe my first track day(s).

I rode for a bit years ago, a seca II. Big difference of course. But the biggest difference of all is me, I'm older and have a genuine healthy respect for the machine. I can tell you that I'm already a better rider than I ever was back then.

I'm blessed to live close to some nice twisty backroads with only a short drive in traffic to get there. So my biggest concern will be that short drive in traffic, after that it's deer, and some tight hairpins that will bite back if not respected.
Already I find the bike to be damn near telepathically connected to me, I'm really looking forward to when I build up my skill.

I'm not the least bit interested in stunting, or racing, or finding the top speed. Although if I get the notion I'll get the speed thing out of my system at the Texas Mile that runs twice a year in Goliad. Standing mile on a big airstrip, fast as you can get it. I'm sure TWS, MSR, HHR will be plenty of fun though.

I don't have any pictures of the bike, frankly it's a little depressing since it is trashed on one side. It is black.

The kid that owned it also had the not so bright idea to take off the mirrors and blinkers. I found the mirrors cheap enough but I need to find a blinker solution. Also I think the plate is not lit up so I'll have to remedy that as I don't want to be hassled.

If ya'll have any good leads on the pieces I need, please give me a shout!

First things first...the bike will stay parked until I complete my gear (coming in the mail), the mirrors and blinkers are on, and I get my license sorted out. MSF here I come.
