I have used Shell Rotella -T Synthetic 5w-40 in my GL1500 for some time and have been please with it. I just learned that shell reformulated and repackaged this oil about May of 2008. Does any one know what Shell changed and is it still safe for a wet clutch? Shell now boast that they have had considerable less engine wear with the new formula. This concerns me that they may have added something that will make a wet clutch slip.It still doesn't have the energy saving symbol on the container. |
I've used the old and the new and can't tell any difference. My clutch has seemed just fine, even through the two track days I did last week.
I sent a sample of it in to Blackstone Oil Labs for analysis after 4000 miles of use and it came back in great shape. If you do a search for Rotella analysis you can find my thread on it.
