Here for advice..

Hey everyone,

I've been riding for a while now, and I used to ride a GSX-R 600. It's got enough power for me carve through a corner, and I love the way it handles. Recently I was involved in a motorcycle accident, and some asshole cut me off, and long story short, the insurance cut me a fat check to pick up a new bike.

My 07 GSXR..then..

My 07 GSXR..now.. (take note of where the tires in reference to the headers)

I rode my friends '08 CBR1000RR - and I loved the way it handled, it had smooth power. He suggested I look at a '07-'08 CBR600. What are some positive aspects of a CBR that outperform other sports bikes. (I know most modern sportsbikes are all pretty close when it comes to performance benchmarking)

My friends CBR, he let me ride it since my bike is totaled.

Thanks!!

Re: Here for advice..

That's terrible about the crash you had. Glad you're ok or at least it sounds as though you are.

First, I think you have to decide what class you want to get into. 600 or 1000 or maybe a 750 Gixxer. Once you determine what will best suit your experience, then choose the make you like best. As you said they are all very close and the slight differences in power and handling will only surface if you do track days or race. So choose which bikes fits you the best and you like the looks of and has good Dealer support. Doesn't sound like you have any particular brand loyalty so you're wide open. Just don't buy over your head.

That does look like a pretty bad smash.

I have never ridden a CBR600 so can't really comment, but I would agree what denzee above - for 99% of riders and especially road riders the performance differences are likely to be small, so go for what suits you best in terms of riding position, price, local spares/servicing (if required) and also the one you like the best.

That gixer had a magic front wheel to get up there
Glad that you seem to be ok, and seeing how you've test ridden/owned a few of the bikes you fancy, go for the one that makes you smile like this ..

Oh yeah and one other thing...to the site

Re: Here for advice..

Thanks for all the replies everyone. denzee, I did walk away from the crash without a single scratch or bruise. I had on full gear, (boots/gloves/jacket/helmet/back-chest protector) - the worst part about all this, I had a track day on 10/12/09 and the accident happened 10/04/09 - I was livid!

I plan to track the bike and start to minimize street riding, it's just not worth the risk especially here in Los Angeles; drivers are morons. I'm leaning towards the 600, I mean how fast can you go through a corner on a 600 as opposed to a 1 liter bike.
