2006 Kawasaki bikes

Here is a sneak peek of a couple new kawasakis. A special edition 636 and a new ZX-14R.

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...ad.php?t=14131

I like the new 14r. Buying it would definately make up for my small penis.

Painting it red and using Honda symbolism won't make the damn thing better.

Re: 2006 Kawasaki bikes

I see the 14R is using a monocoque / airbox setup almost identical to the 12R. Seems there won't be a 2006 ZX-12R...

Guess they're not calling it a ZZR.

yeah thats the same thing as the "ZZR" Conq posted. Guess its not a 1200 as we thought. That thing has to be fast as hell, especially once it gets going.

can you explain monocoque to me cause I don't really know what it means. I think trellis is the only frame type that I understand what it actually is. Like the 929 has a diamond frame according to the service manual, what the hell is that?

The 929 does not have a full frame. The engine block actually completes the frame. Most other bikes the rear shock attaches to the frame, whereas on the 929 it attaches to the block.

If the 14R's frame is anything like the ZX12's, the frame comes up in the middle underneath the gas tank which means it'll be very top heavy and hard to toss around.

Re: 2006 Kawasaki bikes

Most sportbikes use an aluminum "twin spar" frame, where 2 thick aluminum beams wrap around the engine. Ducatis use a trellis frame, where instead of thick alum. beams they have a framework of welded steel tubing. The ZX12R uses a monocoque aluminum frame, where rather than having 2 beams wrap around the engine, they have 1 big hollow beam that arches over top the engine. THe inside doubles as an airbox, and the bulk of the fuel tank is actually below the seat. It allows them to build a narrower motorcycle in spite of a wide motor.

THe 929 and 1000rr both have alum. twin-spar frames. THe difference, as Z stated, is that the 929 mounts the swingarm to the transmission case rather than the frame tubes, which are terminated above the gearbox. THis is known as a pivotless frame. Your manual calls your frame a "diamond" frame probably because if you were to cut one of the frame spars in half, the cross-sectoin would be diamond shaped.

Re: 2006 Kawasaki bikes

My 1000rr has lots of power, and is about 20 pounds heavier than my old 954. It's not a forgiving beginner bike, it's a fast, loud mean ass beast.

Re: 2006 Kawasaki bikes

cool thanks for the edumacation. I knew what a trellis frame was and that the 929/954 frame doesn't goo all the way down to the swingarm mount. I suppose if I had thought about a twin spar frame I woulda got it (but I completely forgot about that type till you said it). I wouldn't have got what a monocoque is though.

You can see in the cutaway where the big frame tube hunches over the throttle bodies, and where the ram ait tubes hook up on the front.
